Novelty Targets

Post by redgum »

Well it's time to start preparing for the Christmas novelty shoot again and I'm looking for any and all ideas for novelty targets. We have a 50 yard and 2 x 25 yard ranges and we shoot handgun, shotgun and rifle (.22 & pistol calibres)
There is a bank of plates and half a dozen "pepper-poppers" but I'm looking for fun ideas that will hopefully spark some enthusiasm. ......any help appreciated :)

using cookie cutters as molds for ice, and using food coloring, .............make santa and his reindeer targets!
well maybe not, kids might not like that,

but it is tempting and by the end of the holidays we could all get into that.

Animal crackers
Neco Wafers
Lifesavers on a string
Charcoal Briquettes on a string
any other crackers or cookies that come to mind.

My favorite is a large coffee can filled with water with the plastic lid on and a 2 foot section of 2X4 laid across the top. Shoot the can with a .44 Mag or .357 and see what the 2X4 does. :D
Have you hugged your rifle today?

If you want a neat contest target try this out. Handgun closer ,rifle a little further say 7yrd and 15 yrds. A two X four standing vertically is the target, make it a team of two shooters shooting together trying to cut the board in two. Wining team is determined by least amount of time needed to shoot the board in two. The board must be in two pieces it makes it fun when it's held together by just a few wood fibers . Reloading allowed . It will call for some precise shooting!

Pictures of various Democrats.

Those little condiment packages one gets from fast food restaurants. They make a fun visual when hit! :D

castsup packets are always fun, old CD's, bottle caps, unwanted stocking stuffers, that old deer head mount nobody likes. try cutting a bullet with an axe and hitting 2 ballons with one bullet, ballons, play cards by shooting the card etc.
Your friends might get me in the rush, but not before i turn your head into a canoe. Tombstone.

I am not sure where your located, but around here HEDGE APPLES are the free and plentiful and come apart quite well when being hit with a .22.

I second golf balls. They will go a surprising distance when hit with a .22 revolver.

You are forgetting the obvious...

This is a CHRISTMAS shoot.

(1) Old Xmas Lights that don't all go out when one bulb dies. Shoot the lit bulbs.

(2) Old Glass Tree Ornaments (glass balls) (fill a few random ones with tannerite... )

(3) Stale Candy Canes

(4) Put-n-take Partridges tied to pear trees

How about almost everyones favorite holiday treat, FRUITCAKE!!! You could take one of the small log types and slice it up and try shooting the different fruits out of it.
Strings of holly berries would add difficulty.
You can make dough like we used when we were kids to make hand impressions and roll it out and use holiday themed cookie cutters to make targets. You could even get kids involved by decorating them, just make sure they know they are going to be targets.
If the shoot is after the election try to get hold of various campaign signs to serve as target backers.

Ummm.... One Aunt's fruitcake is more volitile than Tannerite.

The other Aunt's fruitcake I sell to the US navy to use as weld-free Battleship Armor Plate Repair Kits.

Neither are suitable for shooting at... unless you like attracting a DOE/NRC "A" Team &/or catching a 20mm penetrator on the riccochet/rebound....

Skeet Golf. One guy throws, another shoots a third watches to see if the ball jumps (a hit).
