hammer extension & lock time

Post by 30hrrtt »

I am looking for a hammer extension for my 94 trapper. I read a review about uncle mikes being heavy and slowing lock time, affecting accuracy. Looking for input from you that use them. Are aluminum ones availabe? Is it an issue?

The heavier the hammer the slower the lock time. This will effect accuracy. How much in practical terms? Many variables to consider. Try shooting some groups with it on and with it off. Use the same ammo and the same shooting technique so you have sort of an "apples to apples" comparison. 1886.

Uncle Mike's extension is aluminum, isn't it? In any case, I never had a problem with it.

I'd think this would be in the realm of things affecting 100-yard shots off a bench with a 40x scope, but not likely mattering within the practical types of uses for a Trapper type gun.

I need some sort of hammer extension for my Browning B-78. The tiny hammer is very difficult to access, especially in cold weather and when wearing gloves. Any suggestions?

Any difference you may see in group size enlarging after installing a hammer extension more than likely will be imagined...I have a Swedish Mauser with 1 inch of striker fall coupled with a 29 inch long barrel w/open sights..IOW Long lock time..long barrel time..I don't think I ever shot a group with it bench rested that went over 2" @ 100yds..Put that hammer extension on and forget about it..

With cold, wet hands or gloves, it is so much better to have the extension on the weapon......
