Texas is in much better shape than it was. We now have CCW and have always had no restrictions about having a long gun in your care or truck. Also there never has been any legal difference between loaded and unloaded. We also can now have a handgun in your car without having a CCW.

We don't have open carry and still lots of places you cannot carry set out by law. I have not seen a private establishment with a no carry sign for a number of years now.

The University where I teach has the old "no handguns" sign on the entrances to each building, but it is OK to keep a gun in your car or even carry concealed (with a permit) on the grounds.
