Preventec,
Could be internet BS, maybe that pig was standing behind a tree. Or the slug hit the ground and richocheted into him. Or went through another pig while they were feeding.
This does make me think of the recent thread about 44 mag w/180 grain bullets not penetrating. If a bullet is light for its caliber, then it won't penetrate well or hold its energy well?

Well, It's only been a few days, and it's revealing to see the poll results thus far.
IMHO, something like this tells us much about ourselves, collectively, and trends/"particulars".
What's especially surprising (to me), is the low numbers (relatively) on some reportedly superior cartridges.
Vetty Interestink !

Yes, true, he was the "velocity" guy. However, he did do a bunch of brush busting tests way back when and to his surprise I believe, the 348 WCF came out on top. I'm sure it was probably published in Outdoor Life but I thought it also made it into one of his books ... I just can't recall which one. I will see if I can find it. I can't recall if he tested the 45-70 in his mix and I believe the 358 Winchester hadn't been invented at the time of his testing. Even if he had tested the 45-70, it would have been loaded way down back then. I don't think he would have been shooting the level of 45-70 ammo that we have around today.jeepnik wrote:Hey, wasn't he the fella that thought you could kill anything deader with a .270. Like to see him try that on an irate rhino. Silly goof, thinking a .27 is better than .30. Naturally he'd thing a .34 is better than a .45. The boy coulda' used some math lessons.Rimfire McNutjob wrote:.348 Win. which I believe was also O'Connors pick in his brush busting tests.
Still, I'm sticking with a 250gr JFP out of the 348 WCF.
... I love poetry, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick.
