OK ....here's my Model A Uzi......has a 16" barrel.......never heard of it being referred to as a carbine......just plain "Uzi".

Here's a 2" Colt SAA. Is it a "snub nose" or a "short pistol" But....pistols are supposed to be semiautomatics and anything with a cylinder is a "revolver"? I never heard of a "snub nosed Colt SAA".I have heard of "Sheriff's Models".

Let's go to "automatics" of which countless semi-automatics are constantly being referred to. It does make sense calling a semi automatic.....automatic....... as it does it all by itself......or does it do it all by itself? It does take a human being. (or something) to pull the trigger. :D

I'd call it a really BIG rifle, if it is longer than my 20" Marlin 1894*....(but the ATF thankfully says rifled slug-guns are still "shotguns")...

*....but I'd call it a really BIG carbine if it were the same size or smaller...

[quote="GriffNo "stamped" aluminum in the AR-15 or M-16. It is forged aluminum[/quote]

Like that made them one darned bit better. Stamped or forged they were what comes out of the back end of a cow.

Six, a two inch 38 is a snub nose as is a 2 1/2" 357 mag. Now 3", that is different, no name but not a snub nose.

IIRC, there was aluminum inside the fore end of the M16, probably stamped but that was 40 years ago.

Guess that would be a rifle with a thin barrel. I dunno, murphy, there are exceptions to every rule. All I was trying to say was that I don't split hairs about what to call a rifle based on barrel length and all that.
Have you hugged your rifle today?
