When evidence shows up that shows me I need to re think something and admit maybe I am a tad off(I fess up)

In this last issue of American Rifleman August 2011 (just got it today in mail)on page 29 under Product Reviews--- "Editor's Choice" Aaron Carter(Managing Editor)
talks in detail on his experience with the new hornady 30-30 Monoflex 140gr round.

He talks about on a recent hunt in Alberta,Canada where 8 bears where taken with that round using the Mossberg 464.
Of those eight bears taken only 2 bullets were recovered.
It really sounds like that round/cartridge did a heck of a job,so much so the Guide(Kory Stanley)said that it has changed his perception what a 30-30 can do!
Sounds like a real winner :)

Madman4570,

Was that grizzly bears or black bears? Too, if you were shooting a bear when it intended to do you harm it might then take considerably more to put him down than when you "sneak" a bullet into him. How many shots per bear?

Is that Hornady Monoflex bullet for sale for reloading or only in factory loaded cartridges? What's the make-up of the bullet?

Don,
I am guessing black bears?(dont know how many bullets in each/just that the other 6 taken had 100% bullet penetration?
But,from the guide's remarks must have been pretty darned good?
He talks mainly about the two bears in which those being the bears where the bullets were recovered.
It appears the bullets maintained their original bullet weight well(like 137.2 grs of the 140grs)etc.
Yes, a charging bear bent on killing you is a different deal than a wandering unaware bear.
Make-up of the bullet is 95%copper/5% zinc and at this time believe it's only available in loaded form but I imagine soon to change.

Don,
Just also found this (check the ones dated May 4 through May 10 on below links) Here are some of those bears(nice ones at that)
