Griff, of course you know what you want and need but I would put a pointy bullet BLR, 88 or 99 in there.

Thats a question I don't want to get into. Remember now, I've been playing with leverguns since 1966 when I was 12. Its been a lifelong addiction and my dies number well over 60. Moulds are closer to 100.

Its easier if I write the ones I did not play with.

.44 rimfire---I've owned one in the past but was too cheap to shoot my original cartridges
50-110 WCF---too rare & expensive
45-75---50-95---never could find a '76 that was mechanically right at the right price--some day Kirk will
sell/give me his :D
40-72----the hunt is on with this one
40-70---too rare
38-70---too rare
405---just never interested me
.22 Hi-Power---------blah,blah,blah
38-56---another blah
25-36 Marlin

Just two.

A Henry in .22 lr
A Marlin 1894 in .38 spl/.357 mag

I'm planning on a 30-30 eventually. Possibly a 69 Winchester. (my birth year)

I have had a lot of nice levers in 357, 44, 32 Special, 38-40, and 30-30. Over time I settled on 30-30 and 22. I still have a 38-40 but it is a project gun that is not shootable right now.

I wouldn't think a game warden would like seeing the ".444 Marlin" stamping on a gun, even if it was short brass, so I assume you had a gun re-chambered? What kind of gun? Maybe a topic for a separate thread, but would be cool to see. Our deer are always under 125 yards, so stock .44 Mag 240 SP Winchesters drop 'em quick from our Marlin 1894's, but it's still fun to try other stuff or find something better for longer range that's still 'regulation'...

I want a 45/70 levergun, and the soon to come Henry sounds like a nice gun for the money, and no tang or receiver mounted safety, just a good old fashioned halfcock like it's supposed to be.

These two rifles are reworked Marlin 336's, rebarreled and stamped accordingly. If the barrel is stamped for a longer caliber the game warden tells me it is legal to shoot something shorter in it- they will measure the cartridge you are using to see if it is legal.I did'nt go that route though.Mine are complete rebarrel jobs. Also a .444 would not work with a .375 bullet so you have to rebarrel.

Oh yeah. . . duhhh. . .
Sounds like a cool project. Did you have someone in Indiana do the gunsmithing? I haven't found a gunsmith yet that I trust, since the last one botched attaching a flash suppressor on an AR-15, and putting a scope base on a break-open 12 gauge, both of which should be a piece of cake for a decent gunsmith.

Yes, the work was done in Indiana. I did the work myself. As for gunsmiths around here there some parts changers but only one real one that I know of and he is so busy the wait is long. I am a not for hire advanced amatuer gunsmith for rifles and side-by-side shotguns.

Steve, good things come to those who wait. Most of my group came from unexpected places. I'm a hunter and the ones I have hunt with me, I've owned leverguns since I was a boy. They came and went during child rearing years. Hell, some of the calibers listed by other posters here, I don't even recognise? Hang in there brother.

Hey 71Fan,
Is there any reason more than others you hang on to these calibers?

Sort of a combination of guns I wanted to hold onto and the actual calibers. I only needed one pistol/CAS caliber and have a ton of brass for 44 from several years in CAS, so the 38 wcf, 44 wcf, and 45s went away. The 45-70, 38-55 and 30 wcf are levergun staples and I will always own at least one of each. The 348 is the best all-around classic hunting round (see username). So that leaves the more obscure ones: the 33, 40-70 and 50 ex are the original calibers of my most prized Winchester - a three barrel '86. Life is so much simpler when the ammo and die needs are cut in half.

I only have a Marlin 30AS in .30-30 & a Rossi 92 in .357. Next will be a Henry, the H001T in .22lr.

I'd love a Marlin 1894 in .41, to "go with" my Bisley Blackhawk, tho a 336 in .35Rem would be equally cool & easier to get my hands on.
