Yeah, down here we have to be specific. We have 4 codes of "football". Australian Rules, Rugby League, Rugby Union, and Soccer.

A few years ago, the FFA adopted "Football" as the official term for "Soccer", but it's not really catching on.

:D I don't know ..... I'll have to go over to that other thread and take a look! :D

Nath, if you really want to start a full-out brawl, you should ask what the correct pronunciation of 'lever-gun' is. Is it lever that rhymes with 'never', or is it lever that rhymes with 'weaver'? Everyone around where I live uses the latter. Of course, I wouldn't want to start an argument or get this thread off-topic, so I won't ask that question. 8)
Kirk: An old geezer who loves the smell of freshly turned earth, old cedar rail fences, wood smoke, a crackling fireplace on a snowy evening, pristine wilderness lakes, the scent of
cedars and a magnificent Whitetail buck framed in the semi-buckhorn sights of a 120-year old Winchester.

Just maybe that perverbial "Overlever" would be our famous "Trapdoor" series .

In Australia if you wear le -vers you ride a motorbike. If you use leavers you use the one and only great action rifle.
We dont have pacifiers for kids we have dummies. To spit the dummy in Australia you have really upset someone off big time, hence Fred or whatever spat the dummy. From there he probably got into a blue or stink, thats a fist fight. Its all good fun but. Language, its what unites us all and causes great friction at various times also. Our own various humours and logic make us so different and yet so interesting at the same time. But can be a cause of great misunderstanding and offence when none was really intended.

Hey Nath your still a pommie bast*** but please keep the fair dinkum commentary coming, its a joy to read. Terry keep your commentaries comiing they are also a great source of enjoyment and no offence is ever taken. Uhru the Aussies know what that means.

Talk about being divided by a common language. Throw a new language in there and see how you go.

A new to Australia (ex asian) Aussie asked me to explain to him what he had read about two state politicians who were accused of corruption. The local newspaper had described them as "two joy boys riding the gravy train". Apparently there is no direct English / Chinese translation for this term.

If you are born in Britian - or even just lived there for more than a week you are now, and always will be a pommy Bast***.

And Terry, you just scare me.

Just for clarification,

"B**st**d" is a generally term of endearment here. More often than not, it is a term used for your closest friends.

From what I can understand, our manner can be a source of offence around the world.
