OTH,
It does look a lot like the Swiss K31, how does is shoot? Is ammo getting scarce for them?
Pete,
Nice buck, I love the tiger striping on that 96!!
Over on the Swedish boards I go to, they say the 6.5x55 is a very, very good caliber for deer and moose. I have a 96 and 96/38 and they shoot so nice, very little recoil and very accurate.I am with you, my 28/30 shoots really, really great.

Good luck on your hunt! When I see those rifles I always think of the quote from Stalin (I believe) that seems to apply to all Russian military hardware: "Quantity has it's own quality".

Steve, it is a Steyr M95/34...Austrian 8mm X 56R, kicks like a mule. Unless you load your own for it all that is available is Hornady or Milsurp 1938 Nazi, both of which kick harder than a mule. With my cast 210gr w/gc's and 22 grains of 2400 it shoots around 1700 fps and is very accurate with little to no kick, crank 'er up to 40+grains of H4895 and you'll feel the pain.

OTH,
210gr, that is stout! hate to have been shot with one of those.
I have been busy at work, now I am going to miss opening day of deer season, oh well at least I still have a job.
