My 4 5/8" stainless SuperBlackhawk has a rounded trigger gaurd. I think the short barrel model is the only one that doesn't have the square back trigger guard.J Miller wrote:Dave wrote:I share your feelings toward the new, improved guns. Dave,
Strangely enough the Ruger SBH causes me the worst pain and agony of any .44 Mag revolvers I've ever shot. That square backed trigger guard just pulverizes my knuckles. Bruises, contusions, and even blood leaking once.![]()
So I stay away from them. Vaqueros, and other .44 Mag SAs with round trigger guards don't bother me at all.
However The Ruger .44 Single actions are some of the best, I will not argue that point one bit.

I think - therefore I'm frequently wrong that the 4 5/8" and 51/2" SBHs have the rounded trigger guards. I haven't had a chance to shoot one of those yet. I'd like to though.
A couple years ago I ran into a couple guys at the local indoor range shooting an old German made Single Action in .44 Mag. They were having fits with it. I talked with them a bit and then asked if I could try it. They said sure. The ammo was Winchester White Box 240gr fire breathing loads. I fired 6 into about a 3" group just left of the target bull without any trouble at all. No bashed knuckles, no pain, no nothing. I think the trouble for me is that squared off trigger guard Ruger uses on the 7.5" SBHs.
Round ones don't cause me any problems at all.

Joe- thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed that blog. Back when that topic was hot on various forums, I pretty much left it alone, but kept thinking of all the reasons why the 'excuses' didn't make sense to me. Then I got on a roll one day and hammered it out. At least when the topic comes up occasionally, I can just post a link to it and be done. You're welcome to do the same if you are so inclined.
And thank you for your comment as well. Take care. Us old dinosaurs gotta stick together
