My XD 9mm sub compact is my usual carry. It has 10+1, with that I carry 2 16 round mags. Very easy to conceal.

When armed

Post by Paul Jenkins »

Gentlemen,
I have a CCP for Pa. & De. and know that responsibility. I also know a few retired LEO's who do not carry at all. I consider carrying to be a responsibility I don't like that responsibility, but , ran into a situation where I would have liked to have been armed. I now am legally armed. I agree with our right to defend ourselves. With my agreement I think established, I would like to ask how many of the previous respondents have any actual experience in defending onesself or others. This is NOT a flame and I don't believe only LEO's should be armed. BTW, I carry a .380 Baikol & 1 spare mag. 17 rds.

These work well for .44s

stripper clips for the Lee Enfield hold 5 rounds of .44

When carrying a Colt Defender or Springfield Micro Compact, there's one full 7-rd mag in the gun plus two more 7 rd mags. This is usually on my belt.

When carrying a 3" S&W M65, there's a full cylinder of six plus two speed strips. This is on my belt when the Defender or Springer isn't.

When carrying a 9x19 Makarov, there's a full magazine of eight in the gun plus two or three more full mags. This is usually in my briefcase, except for when I'm in Canada or flying commercial.

There are plenty of incidents (videos of shootings) in which you can see trained officers shoot the stuff out of their guns and hit nothing. Do not! rely on 3.5 shots or whatever. If it is worth shooting it is worth shooting until it is dead or no longer a threat. A gun fight with out reload possibility is a short gun fight indeed. Many of you have been in combat, many more have trained for it. You that have been there have played in your minds what you should have done. This is normal. I bet that some of you felt that you should have shot better or taken more time with your shots. My point is this. In an adrenalin dump you will keep pulling that trigger until the gun goes CLICK unless you are extremely disciplined or have "Seen the elephant" before. ALWAYS CARRY A RELOAD!!! OR TWO EVEN. JMHO

I never saw a situation where a ccw licensee needed to reload.

I've have seen plaintiff lawyers emphasize that a shooter for carrying extra ammo and the juries usually agreed that indicated the guy with the CCW was looking for a situation to act like John Wayne.
Heck with that. I will take my chances.

I heard of a of a gentleman, CCW holder that foiled a robbery and killing. He shot the guy 5 times. The attorney asked him "why did you shoot him 5 times?" he said "because it ws a Chief" Attorney: "but why five times?" guy: "because thats all a Chief holds" He was not charged with any wrong doing.   True or not, that there is funny

When my Taurus 85 is with me - it is 5 in the pipe and one speedstrip.
When the Kel-Tec .380 is along - it is usually one spare mag.
When the Glock 23 goes along - it is usually the 13 in the one mag.
It might not be ideal but I feel comfortable with them. The Kel-Tec gets carried the most - it is amazing to me how easy it is to carry this on.

Probably based on a true incident. When on the New York Stake-out Squad, Jim Cirillo shot a perp 18 times, when asked by IAD why he had shot the man 18 times, Cirillo reportedly responded; "Because I ran out of ammo."

since I got the Rohrbaugh, I'm now packing two extra mags. With my Bond Derringer, 4 extra 45LC in my off side pocket.

I've got a spare tire, a tire repair kit and a 12 volt compressor that are ALWAYS in my van. I'm not looking for a flat, but if I find one I'm prepared. I also carry a fire extinguisher. I'm not looking for a fire, but if one happens - I'm prepared. For me it's the same with the sixgun and extra ammo. I'm not looking for trouble - but I've seen what happens to others when trouble came on them unexpected. To not learn from the experiences of others dooms one to repeat their mistakes. That's why there's a couple of speedloaders on my person along with the sixgun.
