I think the "ram test" is significant. If a person had a coat on the birdshot pellets would leave a mark, and hurt but might enrage them even more and make them more violent. Especially if they are under the influence of whatever substance at the time. The buckshot is more definitive and looks like it'll put an end to the matter quicker and more often than the birdshot. Personally, I think a good low-recoil slug is the way to go.

Agreed. #7 or #8 probably wont exit the house, and the next day all you need is some paper towels, a bucket of shackle and some sand paper.

I used to use #2 steel goose shot until I put it through a car door... Oh my!

Just my thoughts.

How many 00 buck pellets fit inside one of those shells?

If I broke into someone's home and saw the business end of that pointed at me, and I didn't surrrender, geez.......
The 3 1/2 10ga holds 19 00 pellets (double the payload of a 2 3/4 inch 12 ga) and if you choose #4 Buck it holds 54 pellets (again double a 2 3/4 12 ga).

Ricky,

It looks like I neglected to comment on your excellent workup with the photos of the buckshot and regular shot. Great work and photos. Thank you!

When using birdshot, it would be wise to take head shots only....

CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION

Maybe this will give an idea 0f the difference between 00 Buckshot and Birdshot.

Gut shot with 00 Buckshot

Head shot with birdshot

Either one works for me. Both of em are dead. The Birdshot guy is just as dead as the 00 Buckshot guy.

I swear some of us get too hung up on details when it's time to poop or get off the pot.

I've never been much of a shotgunner. At last count I've owned 6 shotguns in the last 20 years all of which were traded off for some other purchase. I now have an 870 with a 26'' field barrel and 21" turkey barrel. It was eye opening to me how many number 5 pellets I can put into a 30" circle at 50yds with the extra-full turkey choke. I think I'm going to have some fun with that gun. A big part of me likes the idea of shooting a shotgun like a rifle on turkeys and various varmints.

I that dainty little thing doesn't stop them you should ask if you can help load their truck!

My sole objection to doubles as defensive guns is the fact that ther are only two shots before you have to reload.

Dang that shotgun practically makes my mouth water! I likes!!!

What make is it?
It is marked Elibar Spain. I actually bought it from a neighbor who kept it under the seat of his pickup for any 'jobsite' disputes.
