Re: 454 Vs. 45/70?
Guess I was thinking get the 454 R92 to have an excuse to get a pistol to match

Well that still works.

Re: 454 Vs. 45/70?
New to the forum, but have always been a fan of the lever rifle starting with my first Win 94 and this looks like a good place to learn even more.
I recently took deliver of a Steve's Rossi 92 in 454 Casull. I have a Ruger Alaskan in the same caliber and just made sense to have a companion rifle, even though I'm still working through cartridge OAL issues (saw the posts on that issue).
I own a couple of Marlin 1895 Guide Guns and have always been a big fan of the 45-70, particularly the 405gr LBT bullets running at around 1900 fps. Hard to argue with this calibers performance on game and the big five in Africa. For me, the 454 Casull does what I want it to do but I still enjoy taking out by 1895 SBL for an occasional trip in to the woods.
