I think the original post fits the definition of troll. If it had been a joke/tease that would be different, but I didn't see any smilies. It was a mostly politley worded post, but troll nonetheless.

That's just one of the regulars trying to spice up the conversation a bit. Sometimes we get too many off topic posts and someone will come in and "step in it" to get things going. The original poster probably shoots more 45-70 than many of us here. Now if you meant that he "looks like a troll", I'd have a hard time arguing with that.

Interesting question 86er raised - he is not a Troll. It did elicit a lot of views, opinions and info. And it is probably very useful and interesting for a professional hunter to know what shooters and hunters think. I recall a year of so ago some fellows went down from the midwest and had no idea their guns and their knowledge of same were inadequate to what they faced.

yes, the 45-70 is the most versatile cartridge ever. load it down for small game, load it up for elephants and dinasoaurs. yes, the .444 .265gr. will kill anything in n. america deader than dead.

It's the caliber that, if you load up a lever to a level no other can be loaded,... will never have a honest need for in the lower 48. Oh, yah,... and it is the caliber, when loaded up to its full potential, you don't want to shoot more than three times in a row at any range visit.

No - it's just the kind of juvenile humor and mischief some of us old fanny burbs get into on rainy weekends, when we want to liven things up a bit. Kind of like tossing a few firecrackers in the campfire at sunup...

I can see that I didn't post well when I called the OP a troll. So I apologise to him and the board in general.

The lack of smilies in the OP concerned me. I've seen a lot of forums corrupted or ruined by hard feelings and the last thing I wanted was for this place to turn into GlockTalk. I'd seen some other posts from you 86er but not enough to get that the post was for fun, so I'm sorry.

Now as far as calling me a Democrat. That's just beyond the pale! I had to go sit in the corner and cry for an hour.

A .444 levergun cannot match that performance, even with bullets of similar sectional density.

The .444, as first introduced, was a bad joke, and later, heavier-bulleted loads did little to make up for the round's initial shortcomings.
a .444 loaded with 300-330 grain bullets will also take anything in north america, i'll bet the game will never notice the difference, plus, u get a little flatter trajectory. have both, love both, but you can't get a 45-70 in a model 94
No, but ya can in an '86.

the 45-70 weighs close to 9 pounds, the .444 in a 94 with 20"barrel goes about 6 1/4 lbs. either stop a brown bear and the bear won't know the difference. not saying the .444 is superior, but for north american game, the .444 .265 is enough.

Awwwwwww,.... I guess I'll have to agree with that!

I chopped my barrel and cut some wood, so I'm down around 5&3/4 lbs.

Very Handy kit!!! :D
