I think that Chris Martenson explained how the 'progressives' get that deer-in-headlight expression and just lock up mentally due to cognitive dissonance when they run up against facts or science that contradicts their world-view. The political 'conservatives' must have had a similar experience a couple centuries ago when 'science vs God' was the big conflict. Ultimately that was pretty well settled by realizing that science explains HOW things work, and God explains WHY they work. But the 'liberals' of today have a conflict not between God and science (for their 'god' is Government), but between their materialistic view of the world versus a spiritual view, and their assumption that accounting 'metrics' can somehow measure the value of a person's life and their contribution to society, so government can therefore play god and make everyone happy, they are so off course it would be comical if the end result weren't so often poverty and genocide.

But when confronted with the failures of 'gun control' or 'minimum wage' or 'affirmative action' or 'socialized health care' or 'subsidized housing' or 'green energy', or their failed response to CoVid, they just get a hollow-stare and throw up their hands and say "Well I know what we did completely failed, but what else could we do...???" For starters, they could listen to historians and scientists and not go down those stupid socialist rabbit-trails time and time again, or even just admit when they fail and change 'solutions' instead of responding by doubling down on failed public policy. But they never do - 'progressives' don't do 'science' or 'economics' - they can't even do 'logic' or 'math' very well. Too busy virtue-signaling.
Funny how the same crowd that recognizes how micro-managing the farm or garden with chemical herbicides and pesticides has negative long-term consequences, is completely clueless to the reality that the SAME concepts apply to social engineering.
