Perish the thought but I believe I would choose my blued steel 5 1/2" Bisley in .45 Colt.

Thanks Walt. I have been going through the calibers in my mind, and barrel lengths as well. I like the looks of the Bisley, but never shot any of the ones I had side-by side with the same load in a Blackhawk with conventional grip. My hands are medium size and the Bisley may be just beyond optimal for me. I much prefer blued to stainless. I am leaning toward a .45 Colt with 5 1/2-inch barrel as well.

Well, I have to say my 41, 4⁵/⁸. Why that particular one? Because I already own it. :D

I had a 7.5 SBH in 44 mag, between the squared off trigger guard and the obnoxious recoil of full house I traded for a K22. The SBH became a 22K-hornet.

I suppose I would opt for the 4-5/8" .357 3-screw I had at one time. Traded it off for a .30-30 Marlin, which I gifted my dad, who in turn traded that off to my cousin in exchange for Ruger 10-22, which he left to my son. I don't suppose one could trade a 10-22 straight up for a 3-screw Blackhawk?

Stainless, 4 5/8”, 45 colt/45 acp.

Stainless because I like the look but also my hands con corrode blued steel in a heartbeat.

4 5/8” because they feel better in my hand than longer barrels. In preferred cross draw holster it’s quick and easy to bring to bear on a target

45 colt / 45acp. Because well, it’s 45 caliber.

I do only have one, a New Model Flattop in 44 Special. (I do have a Single Six in 22 LR/Magnum.)

Image

I suppose if I had to choose another one, say... in a different caliber, I'd go with the 4 5/8" 357 Magnum. I like more bore, but 357 Magnum is a great reloaders cartridge. It has a huge plethora of bullets, data, and moulds available, and of course, a rich history. I would love to take larger game with my handgun, but whitetail deer is the largest I have a chance at normally. There is a small chance for black bear, and I'd make 357 Magnum work.

Easy one for me.

The Bowen .44 Magnum. Second place is a stainless .45 Colt/ ACP Bisley.

Would be close between my stainless 357/9mm convertable 6.5" or my 5.5" blued 45acp/45 colt. Do I have to include my SBH?? If so, then I would take it!!

Jason, I never ever get tired of seeing that Bowen masterpiece. 8)
Here is a sort of "sub question":
Of the four main Blackhawk/SBH calibers, .357, .41, .44 Special/Magnum and .45 Colt, which if any, is the least likely to have cylinder throat/bore dimension issues? Seems I hear this waxes and wanes. Some blame using gang reamers for the cylinders and letting them them wear too much before replacing, but I have no idea if that's the truth.

Bill, I've had to ream all of them. I have not found anyone who sold a .41 throat reamer so I have done those carefully with a split mandrel and emery cloth.

Man, that is a good question. I really enjoy my 5.5" Bisley flattop Blackhawk in .44spl.

That said, I love 45 Colt more than 44 special so I would pick my Blackhawk 45 that I am currently in the process of building. It has been a great revolver for many years and now with its new face lift I guess it can go on for many more years.

Good problem to have!

I have a special place in my heart for my 3-screw Super Blackhawk. But for a "Blackhawk", I'd go with my flat-top .357 magnum.

YK, I have a three screw SBH as well, born date 1973. It really is a nice gun!

I'm a little confused about three screw supers with recessed chambers. Apparently some had them, mine doesn't.

Jeff is indeed a fine shot. I have come close but I have not obtained that group. The smooth action on it is even better than the group. If anyone is ever on the fence about sending him a gun, you will not be sorry. When I got this, my rear sight was sticking out over the right edge of the frame and it was at best a 4-5" group at 10-15 yrds.
