We don’t even wake up for anything less than a 5. And even then I often confuse it with the vibration of my bed.

A good reminder though to secure stuff that can fall.

They are always a surprise. We have small ones here all thanks to our friends in the oil fracking business.

No fracking here Bill!
Just had a 2.2 Aftershock.
Fox News says it's the biggest quake for this area in 140 years.
It's made national news, my aunt in Idaho called to check in.

So we played hooky today. We were just getting ready to launch the boat when it hit. Talked to another guy who said he felt it while he was sitting in 100' of water. We didn't catch any fish but it was a good shake down cruise. :D

Here on the Island some people felt it, others didn't, we never felt a thing.
My sister in law from AZ called my wife all freaked out about it, Told her we should start calling her Chicken Little! 8)

Been 5 aftershocks now.
Just stopped by the hardware store, said they had all kinds of stuff falling off the walls.
Sage does NOT like the after shocks, jumps up and starts barking which wakes Parker and Claro but they just go back to sleep.

I've been joking about that this is the beginning of the end!

Earthquakes as any normal person knows are a non stop every minute of the day occurrence. It's just how a living planet works.

On the other hand, the rumors are swirling around about something BIG happening on Monday, cyber attack, all these military age illegals....

HOLY STUFF- THERES ANOTHER BIG QUAKE!!!!!!!

Yup, a 4.0 on top of the multiple smaller aftershocks. Neither was more than 5 to 7 miles away as the crow flies.

I don't like them. But living most of my life on the edge of the Pacific Subduction Zone, they were a fact of life. Once they get above 6.0 on the Richter, the creep factor increases exponentially.

How can folks think an earthquake is foreshadowing the end of the world. At best they are just a very localized disturbance. I have friends who have plans to dig in and "survive" if "the big one" happens here in SoCal. My plan is entirely different. I'm just going to load up my Jeep with the needfuls and head out. In most cases a mere 100 miles gets you out of the effected area. Go 200 and life is as normal as it ever is.

The earth does this all the time across the globe, it's part of our living planet. When it stops quaking then it's time to worry.

Society today is so wrapped up in their own little world that they don't understand the natural world. Nothing of value is taught in school anymore.

I slept through the night not feeling any aftershocks until 0400 when my phone rang- time to deliver puppies!!!

During the time that I was stationed in Japan ('67 - '69) we had earthquakes all the time. Only one large one that knocked down buildings and killed people. Quite often in the night I would wake up to the wall lockers clanging together and my bunk bouncing from the shaking. That we were in an old wooden 2 story barracks on the second floor did not help. Kinda got used to it.

4.8 is nothing. I was 60 miles from the epicenter of the 1989 Loma Prieta quake......7.2

We were also in an area where homes were built on alluvial soil. We were rocking and rolling pretty good.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Around here this 4.8 is enough to make everyone on edge, just not a common thing.
Had a couple more shocks this morning.

I was closer than that at 40 miles, about half way between where the quake hit and Oakland. Was at work as a security guard with my feet up on the legs of a chair with wheels next to a cinder block wall. Just rode it out. THAT was an interesting experience!
