Jim, he illustrated my childhood imagination with his work on "Robinson Crusoe" and "Treasure Island." No one did pirates better than he. He was the father of Andrew Wyeth and grandfather of Jamie Wyeth. And he and a grandson were killed when their car was struck by a freight train not far from his home in 1945.

My wife & daughter knew Andrew, (who passed away some 10-15 years ago…believe he was in his nineties), and Jamie on a first name basis where I’ve only met them maybe 5 times. Jamie is still around and lives down the road a few miles by the Brandywine River at Chadds Ford. I saw him last fall driving his original Ford Cobra 428 that his father Andrew bought him new back around 1965…….While other guys were driving souped up ‘55 Chevys, he’d pull up in his Cobra, probably a 20 g car then and is now most likely around a mil.

George Weymouth a.k.a. Frolic, a DuPont by marriage was also in the art world. He painted Queen Elizabeth at her request some 2 decades ago. These artists are the nicest people you’d ever want to meet with never a downward look at us. These people, who are artists first are also major horse people having a yearly get drunk get together at Winterthur, Henry DuPonts residence.

We have a few things from George…some signed horseshoes and a couple of prints where he put his personal touch on one of them…….

All of the old families around here have died off leaving college educated liberals to shape the local people’s future….

Funny thing, on my late uncles farm they used to find cannonballs where they planted corn. I asked him 40-45 years ago, “where’s all the cannonballs”?….(thinking money & history)……”he replied, “ahh we get sick of looking at them and just toss them to the side where kids get them and lose em in the woods.”………….amazing, now worth thousands from the Battle of Brandywine…..there’s still two cannons that my wife’s uncle found one of them back in the late fifties…..they are mounted by the road right where they found them. Washington buried them rather than the British find them as he made a hasty retreat to Chester.

Hey GK! Yep….you know how there’s a million people who claim “George Washingtonslept here”? Around here any stone house more than a couple of hundred years old has a sign that says that……….I can say that George Washington rode his white horse past my house when it was nothing more than a field …and not much different today…..we live in a cave in the woods……

There’s a ruins of an old house a mile away which belonged to General Frazer……Your people came to the house and demanded to know where our General Frazier was. They even violated Mrs Frazer and her flock of sheep….(I made that up) …….

For real, in my early collecting days English Brown Bess muskets showed up regularly at local auctions and I didn’t know what they were. Couple of years ago my buddy got an old English blunderbuss (or however that’s spelled) with the trumpet end style of the end of the barrel…….Flintlock pistols were also common…….all from local people scarfing up the spoils of war……

If you look real close you can see an image of George Washington ghostly riding his horse past this sign about 200 yards down the road….—006 and 7/8ths.
