A cappella perfection

Post by Bill in Oregon »

I had never even heard of Oakwood, an historically Black Seventh-day Adventist college in Alabama. Talk about a choral program!

Mercer and Mancini with their Oscars for this song, 1962. They won again the following year for "Days of Wine and Roses."
When Mercer wrote "my huckleberry friend" into the lyric, he was referring to his childhood memory of the Back River in Savannah, where he picked huckleberries as a boy.

And Ray, the "Rafe Hollister Sings" episode of Andy Griffith is one of my favorites. Jack Prince had a wonderful voice. I still hear "The Lonesome Road" in my memory.
