vihtavuori N110 powder
i picked up 8lb of this from a fella getting out of pistol shooting. Dont know much about it, looks to be similar or bit faster than regular 110/win 296 off reports. Anyone used it before? I was looking to run some 240-300 grain XTP in my 44mag and was hoping to get a little heavier loads than alliant 2400 does

Thanks and wow,
26.5grains behind a 200 jsp for 1750fps in a pistol barrel.
22.1 grains behind a 240 jacketed for 1541fps. If that matches reality then in a carbine that load would be pushing over 1900fps....
Last but not least 20.2 grains behind a 300 xtp for 1374fps!
Looks like most these loads are compressed, even some of the starter loads close to being compressed according to reports out there. Interesting to say the least.

I got an old can recently.
Only really load it in 410 but I use the same charge I would with H110!
Nice powder.

I've been using N110 exclusively, for my magnum pistol calibers, over the last 15 years. It is like 2400, but you can safely load much hotter and without the flash, blast, and soot of 2400.

Re: vihtavuori N110 powder
I have some and it's super clean burning but it is not equivalent to H110 ... I think it's just an unfortunate numbering. I believe it's a bit faster than 2400 or H110 so you'll need to load down from where you might load those two. I also have some of their N105 ... which is in a good spot for Hornet.

N110 is the best powder for the 357 magnum, but I still prefer H110/296 for full power 44 mag loads.

There is quite a bit of difference between 2400 and H110 in burn rate. From what I have read N110 sits between them.Rimfire McNutjob wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 11:01 am I have some and it's super clean burning but it is not equivalent to H110 ... I agree. I was looking at H110 when I made that statement. But you're right ... it's pretty much in between. Vihtavouri makes good powder ... if a bit expensive.mickbr wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 5:01 pmThere is quite a bit of difference between 2400 and H110 in burn rate. Re: vihtavuori N110 powder
We've used it in a 357 carbine. The 158 gn JHP has the SD which a 228 gn 44 bullet would. Once we got the pressure up, it was very clean burning. We measured 1800 fps from an 18.5" Ruger carbine and decided we must be pushing it. Our charge was well below max for the 357 revolver in VV's data, but we felt this fps must be at or over max and stopped working up the charge. We were using standard pistol primers, not magnum.
Re: vihtavuori N110 powder
thanks fellas I am reading similar. Clean burning and bookloads tend towards the warm side. Will chrony some 240xtp in the rossi 92 and report.

I used several pounds of VV N-110 I’m the Savage 10ML-II I had . 42 grains of N-110 pushing a 250 grain 45 cal projectile in a plastic sabot typically shot very very well , just make sure you use a tight sabot and not those TC ez glide things .

Re: vihtavuori N110 powder
It is amazing the different loads available for the muzzleloaders now that people are starting to realize you can use some smokeless powders in them...

I have used it in .45 Colt for a Ruger level load. Good accuracy.
