Made some cartridges for my percussion Sharps for this years deer season

Post by barbarossa »

I have decided to try to take a Deer this season with either my Shiloh 1859 Sharps carbine or my Shiloh 1863 sporting rifle so I ve been busy making up some cartridges for them.I ll take the carbine out first as it is a bit lighter plus because it has a patch box it has a convienent place to store some musket caps.I shot a deer years ago with a 1874 Shiloh Sharps so now it s time to try out a percussion model

Nice! I have been learning to make paper cartridges for the .44 and .36 caliber cap and ball pistols. Fun stuff.

I remember seeing a BUNCH of those on the Bass Pro "Bargain Cave" rack years ago. Was broke so they all stayed there. I don't recall which model they were, but remember being intrigued by the idea of a modern reproduction of the old Sharps "muzzle loader".

What a great idea, I have watched a few videos on paper cartridges but it will be far more interesting to see them perform in the hunting field... 8) 8) 8)

Had one of them by Pedersoli, but only ever just dropped in the ball and dumped in the loose powder -- like when I was loading a Merrill I briefly owned. The skirmisher crowd over at N-SSA.org swears by the Charlie Hahn paper tubes.
