Black Range Tales

Post by Walt »

This is a facinating book made up of largely first person stories of southwestern New Mexico. First published in 1936, the author writes of Indian fights, lost gold and mining in this remote mountain range in the last decades of the nineteenth century. It's a good book, hard to put down.

Looks good, Walt. It is a nice drive from Hillsboro and Kingston up over Emory Pass and down into the Mimbres Valley. Miss that Black Range country.

Bill, that winding mountain road is a motorcyclist's dream. I've enjoyed it many times.

You may know that Hillsboro was once the county seat of Sierra County. The ruins of their county courthouse and the old jail are way cool.

Yessir, where Oliver Lee and Jim Gililland were tried for the murder of Colonel Fountain and his little boy Henry -- and found innocent.
