Great combo, Jim! Thanks for the picture.

Here's another of mine; a Marlin 1894CB and an Old Model Ruger SBH, both in .44 mag.

Nice combos guys. Here is my 44 mag combos. B92 Browning, 94 Win Trapper and a Ruger SBH. Sadly I have not worked out good loads for any of these.
Too many other projects ahead of these. Right now I am working on their big brother, a WInchester BB .444.

Mine would be my 629 and Ruger Carbine
OR
My Ruger single six 44 special and the aforementioned carbine although I don't think it will function with my light special loads.

To split the difference,

Gunny, Is your .44 carbine an auto or a lever? I've had surprisingly good luck shooting .44 specials in .44 mag leverguns. Try it!
Without knowing much about the Ruger autos, I almost bought one years ago without realizing they're gas operated. Probably good that I didn't buy it because I shoot almost exclusively cast bullets.

Walt its a 1969 autoloader. I got it back in 92 from a classmate. He was home on break and was rooting around in a gunshop vault and got it for a song. I gave him $300 I think. It's not 100% but darn near 90%.
I really need to try specials out of it.
It's only seen jacketed, like you say being gas operated .

Gunny, I'm a devoted fan of .41 mags. I have a number of them in Smith as well as Ruger. That Henry sounds really neat. The only Henry I have is a .357 mag and I've always felt that in that caliber, the guns are bulky and overweight, although well-made. I would probably not have the same opinion of a Henry in .41 mag.

2ndovc, I'd love to see your Bowen SBH out of your beautiful El Paso Saddlery holster. I'll bet it's a masterpiece.

Here you go, Walt. I like the original walnut grips, but I love how it looks with the AZ Grips on it. Either way, it will always be my favorite handgun.

That Bowen is a real looker Jason, I never tire of seeing it.
I really should have color cased my single six frame.
The Henry is a bit over sized even in 41, but it allows them to use 1 size frame for the centerfire guns.

Gunny, there are a couple of Henrys in my small shooting circle, both with brass frames and chambered in .45 Colt. They seem ponderous, clumsy.

Really nice big bore combo's folks , I had a 76 SBH and was a beautiful sixgun had "Made in the 200 year of American Liberty" stamped on the barrel. But man you couldn't hit a bull in the butt at 10 feet with it. Went through two cylinder pins ,as they would work loose when firing and notch would roll over.
Tried many types of ammo including. 44 special and it was a non shooter so it left as fast as I could get it traded.
That was 25 years ago I guess. Looking back I always wondered what was wrong with it ,just never took time to see.

My guess it had an oversize bore , wished I would have investigated more .Dad hated it ,it was his and he gave it to me. I had dame results. Back in the 90's they were not worth much but now they are over a grand I guess.

Pat, I am not a very good pistolero, but my SBH made around 2018, likes the .430 XTP’s better than the various.429 bullets I have tried.

Marlin 1894 and an old model Ruger Super Black Hawk. :D

Image

The Marlin is stock all the way. On the Ruger SBH I replaced the aluminum ejector rod housing with a steel one years ago, and it has a Belt Mountain cylinder base pin. Oh, and the grips are American Hickory, which to me age like ivory. :D :D :D

I made a mistake trading that one , I'd almost bet the cylinder to bore was mismatched. It didn't shave lead or anything .
Probably could have honed the chamber mouths to match bore could have been all.

I took them off this afternoon to see if they were marked, and all they say is "41". I bought them from a fellow levergunner here... Jason/2ndovc IIRC (which might explain why he likes them too! ).

I wonder if something as plain as a circa 1994 super blackhawk and as pedestrian as a 2011 cva break-open qualifies as a presentable "combo" ? That cva is a proven deerslayer and the blackhawk has educated a few with near misses.

Well there once was a fellow we all knew who cast aspersions at any "new model" and his disciples lurk about. The cva is not a levergun and is marked hecho en espana.....forgive the omission of the proper accent mark over the "n" as my keyboard is hopelessly englisher.
