Does anyone here cast buckshot?

Well, number 4 shot?

I recently acquired a Lee #4 buckshot mold and handles. I don't reload shotgun shells often, and when I do it tends to be small batch specialty stuff using store bought components. But I thought #4 shot might make for an interesting load for my LeMat reproduction. The Lee throws 18 shot per pour, linking 3 to a cavity (6 cavities). Separating the shot is easy enough; I just snipped them using electricians snips. But they all have an annoying spur. Probably won't actually matter for my intended use, but is there a easy way to make these uniform and round?

Other than chucking them and just buying # 4 shot?

Some years ago I purchased a #F buckshot mold from Sharp Shooter Molds. It came with a pair o flush cutters that do not leave a sprue. Unfortunately, the company is no longer in business.

If you have a rotary tumbler, or even a vibratory tumbler, dump them in without using any media (not too many at once) and they should clean up a lot. I do this with buckshot cast from two cavity Lyman moulds and they come out without any sign of a sprue.

I only cast 00 buck shot, but it has the same annoying spru. As mentioned, a rotory tumbler will get them pretty round. I've even put them in a round plastic can and let them roll around in the back of m truck for a few days.

I cast #4Buck, 0Buck and 00Buck using molds from Sharpshooter. Glad I jumped on that bandwagon, years ago.

The Sharpshooter molds do not have as thick of a sprue the Lee mold appears to have.

However, using a small side cutter can almost completely remove the sprue.

I cast a lot of OO shot. Get a pair of Tie-wrap cutters. (HF for $3.00) They cut the spru right at the base a lot cleaner than regular side cutters. Then just load them up

I cast with the Lee .311 RB mold. Slow going but no nib to fuss with. 9 balls stack neatly in a WW12 wad. Tough on varmints.
