I've had this old WRA M1 receivered parts for a good while ,mainly for a reminder of all the men that fought in WW2 and sacrifices made by so many. No telling how many veterans carried ,trained ,etc. this old M1 . And sadly it's service came to an abrupt end as well.
The stories this piece of American history could tell and the places its been would be worthy of a fine book or movie.
It came from DuPage and was told it and several others were came from CMP . Had cosmoline in all nooks and crannies .
Still has a very thin original park showing the factory lead dipped heels from 1942 production.
All surfaces Shiney like a mirror from the many thousands of rounds fired during its life until one day a fatal event ended its service . Either out of battery fire, dismount op rod, worn spring allowing to much bolt impact speed.
Major split to the heel right at the shooter face, thankfully it stayed intact. Also cracked the bridge .
Love the war time speed milling ,rough as a cob
Since it's never been through a rebuild it must have remained over seas since WW2 guessing.
