Suggestions?

Post by Ysabel Kid »

Okay, somehow I misplaced the key to a rifle case. The lock looks like this:

I've tried to pick it, but suspect I just messed up the lock.

Other than a small application of high explosives, any suggestions?

I would make a methodical search of the house. slow & steady . We had a locking fireproof strongbox for documents. didn't open it in years. lost the key. Momma was NUTS. I ended up cutting it open with an angle grinder , and we bought a new one. Not long after looking on top of one of the cupboards we found a little basket where we had spare keys. there it was. forgot about that. Momma was  . .

I had a roommate in college with a suitcase he used with a similar lock. He was always misplacing the key. I got it open by pushing in on the lock with a small screwdriver in the hole while prying up the latch with a knife blade.

Drill the rivets. Start by filling the rivet flat. Center punch and carefully drill out using incrementally larger its. Do the two on the latch not the lock.

File the rivets x 2 on the latch, if they are hardened use a cut off wheel.

+1. Then, when you've reassembled and gotten a locksmith to make new keys... keep them IN the case until in actual use. Another good reason to like my Pelican cases... uses padlocks, Easily scrapped and replaced when losing keys... or forgetting combinations!

Did another search, and found the key... then broke the lock. Ended up cutting it off carefully. Argh!
