Got the wood done

We finished up the wood this morning, it was a battle for sure with these dern sore hips.
10 cord of white Oak so should be a warm winter if the stove holds up.

Awesome Pitchy ! one less thing to worry about . I'll be burning more wood than usual now that the idiot in the white house has taxed coal. anthracite has gone up $150.00 a pallet. My dealer who sells coal stoves and furnaces is really upset.

That's one task I missed out helping with this summer while up north. Preparing for winter isn't something we normally do here between the Canal and the Equator. I did manage a couple weeks of haying, helping an old friend and enjoying a change of pace. Splitting wood is another of those satisfying tasks that's not as enjoyable at the moment as it is looking back at a job well done.

Off topic a little but i was wondering about these hip issues, i weighed myself wit h cloths on and right at 300 pounds, i then pushed down with my cane about the same as i do when walking and it read 100 pounds less.
That tells me that if i lost 100 pounds it wouldn`t hurt so much, makes sense doesn`t it.

Made a big difference for me. I was pushing 300 before I ended up in the hospital several years ago now. I was down to 220 when I got home and have been able to keep it around 240 or so. I still can't do what I used to be able to. Spent most of the weekend building a set of stairs for the garage and if it wasn't for the kid helping move the heavy stuff, it would have taken a whole lot longer. Having that weight off sure makes getting around, doing normal day to day stuff a heck of a lot easier.

I know, I've been fighting it since I was a kid. When I was in my late '30s I was still working as a carpenter and was down to 190 pounds. Ten years later I was sitting at a desk all day and broke 295.

It hasn't been easy, but I've kept most of it off. A lot of it is the plain, bland diet I'm stuck with after the extended hospital stay and the damage done. Sugar and carbs are the toughest part. Cut those down to bare minimums and the rest is pretty easy.

Thanks Drawdown, Norma gets all the credit for getting the wood done she carries everything, we put a section of rollers from the mill on the skid way we made which made moving the logs much easier.

I used to cut and split 2-3 cords, of white & black oak, yearly when we lived in the Sierras. Cutting and splitting was easy. Moving it by the wheel barrow full after it had seasoned and then stacking it was misery.

I hope to never have to deal with feeding wood stoves or maintaining acreage the rest of my retired life.

Thanks guys, every year i tell Norma that`s it no more wood but don`t no what to replace it with and if the power goes off this stove won`t work.
Glad we have the cook stove but of coarse this wood is to big for that so i don`t know what the answer is, put a barrel stove in the house and screw the insurance company.

That reminds me that I have a few cords of wood that I cut and split this Spring that I need to bring into the shed. Cutting wood is a lot of work but it keeps you in shape. But I do like the wood splitter.
I find portion size is the key to keeping weight off. Eat the same thing just less. Plus get rid of bread. I eat hamburgers and brats without the bun. I get one slice of bread with my egg in the morning, that is it for carbs.

Dang Pitchy, I'm all envious. I won't get my firewood supply started until late September or October -- whenever they declare "fire season" over with around here. Three, or maybe four cords will do me though. Small stove and good old "global warming". Or maybe these not-so-serious Oregon winters.

I am less mobile after the Covid vaccine stroke, so I have cut back on carbs and total food. About once a week do I eat until I feel full. I am down about 20 pounds in 4 months. Drooped almost 2 pants sizes.

Thanks everyone for the weight tips going to have to work on it, must clarify about Norma carrying all the wood we put the bucket on the tractor next to the splitter then dump it on the pile but she does put the wood on the splitter.
We usually don`t put up wood until fall either when it`s cooler but i feel getting it done now is a good ides the way things are going, we work on it early in the morning for about two hours.
Now gotta round up some big tarps to cover it with.

Lenn, you must have burned thousands of calories getting that wood put up! I probably haven't cut and stacked more than a dozen cords in my whole life, but I do miss it.
Hard work, constant worry and skipping lunch most of the time have allowed me to shed about a dozen pounds -- I am hanging right at 158-159 -- since I moved here a couple of months ago, but now my jeans are too loose

Hey Pitchy - great job on the firewood man, im envious. This guy has helped tons of p[eople with good, easy to read info on weight loss by minimizing sugars and grains -- i dont work for him or anything, i actually self publish my own fitness blog, but its geared more towards athletes in training (Cutting and splitting 10 cords of firewood qualifies as an athletic feat in my book though )

PErsonally, i think any of the diets out there -- and there are tons -- work if you follow them to the letter of the law for a few months, but the no sugar, no grains approach is something that a lot of people have found they can live with

Thanks Streetstar, I think the reason i gained so much weight is the lack of not being able to walk very far or work much.
That`s why i built the skid way so all i did was stand there and saw and sat on a chair while splitting the wood, i`m not too worried about it really what the heck.

For a natural inflammation remedy, I've been having great success with Tumeric Curcumin (an Indian spice) that has BioPerine in it -- which helps with the absorption. The one we get is made in the USA, and is from Amazon (Nature's Nutrition brand). Since taking this daily supplement, I no longer have to wear wrists braces every night, or especially after working my wrists really hard on the weekend. They used to ache "for days" after a weekend workout, and now I barely have any soreness.

I have to get about 1,000 cubic feet of firewood each year (we have no heat source other than wood, as I refuse to have anything in my home I can't build or repair myself, so I built a wood furnace and computerized programmable damper; for 'air conditioning' we have two dorm-fridge-sized portable units that do the job - if one breaks we still have 50% function, and a $500 trip to Lowe's, versus held hostage to repairs we have to take time off work to be home for). The woodshed is 14 x 10 and I fill it 7 feet high. I guess that's about 8 'cords' or what passes for 16 'ricks' or 16 'pickup loads' where I live.

Unfortunately, the past few years I've had to buy most of the firewood, and right now we have about 50 cubic feet of firewood, and we spent our 'heating money' redoing the wellhouse, so it may be interesting this winter.

I bought wood this year also Doc a cord here is 4x4x8 foot i got 5 cords of logs and 5 cord of slabs kind of a bummer to have 40 acres of woods and can`t cut it myself but what can ya do.
My biggest worry now is the power going out or the stove giving out again it would be tough welding it up again in the winter.
By the time the Dems make everyone drive a electric car and they can`t produce enough electricity it might get bad.

I only burn 3- 4 cords of wood, but then my house is samll.
I'm the woodsplitter, but I'm thinking of buying one.
Some of that knotty, twisted maple is a bear to

Added a couple more Spruce trees to the pile and that`s enough for me.
Bought the splitter years ago at fleet farm, the best thing i did to it was to weld on a extension to the wedge and the side tables.
My Flytraps are doing good and eating lots of Daddy long legs.
