Anyone shooting the Marlin XLR in .30-.30???

Post by Win94 »

Fellas i was wondering what kind of velocity one could expect in the 24" Marlin XLR in .30-.30 when shooting regular flat nosed hornady's and not the rubber spitzer tippped variety.

I have one on layaway, but in my Model 64A Winchester with a 24" barrel I get almost 50fps more than a 20" tube.

I am thinking of picking one up but will continues useing my flat nosed Hornady handloads rather than that new Hornady rubber tipped fodder.

I see what the retail is on these things. what are y'all finding out you're actually having to pay for them?

I paid 479.00 for mine, of course Uncle Sam will also get 5%. I also plan on shooting the 170 Grain Flat Point out of mine. I do not have much use for the rubber tipped bullet. The only place I can see over 100 yards in my neck of the woods is a county Highway on a flat spot! Those Flat points just seem to work extremely well for me to change to any other bullet. I don't have anything against them, I just love that Hornady 170 grain FP Bullet, and IMR 3031.

Thanks,
I'll just need to make room for one in the safe. I'm thinking maybe the 700 VS in .308 should go. It's ugly anyway.
