I feel better now
After two years of not seeing it on the shelf, now there’s some in two different Academy stores.

A box of .30-30 lasts me a long time. But I don't like to be without it.
So, I wasn't greedy. Just took this box and left the rest for my hillbilly friends.

Nice to see. I've been watching at the shop I'm at all the time. There's been some 30-30s, and surprisingly .300 Savage, but keep hoping for some .35 Remington.

I got two boxes of 150gn core lokt Remington factory with my 94 recently.
To be honest it's not especially accurate but certainly is powerful.
I doubt I will ever see any again in the UK!

Re: I feel better now
I'll be 60 this year and I remember hunting with my Grandpa's Model 94 .30-30 which was as long as I was tall. 26 inch octagon barrelled rifle. (Wish I had that one)
I've been carrying the same old Model 94 16 inch Saddle Ring Carbine since around 1983 in three different countries and on more manhunts than I care to remember. If I had to go on such a hunt today, I would no doubt grab that same little carbine.
The .30-30 is an old and trusted friend.

Hey, some of us resemble that remark!Scott Tschirhart wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 11:22 am So, I wasn't greedy. Just took this box and left the rest for my hillbilly friends.
I haven't seen .30-30 WCF in local stores in forever and a day, other than the stuff that is obviously plated in gold for what they are asking for it!
I'll need to made a trip to the local Academy Sports to see if they have it here too. I purchased Y2K a Winchester 1894 a decade plus ago (which I am thinking about refinishing it, as someone had painted the whole thing black!), and need to build some inventory for him (I have my target inventory for my 1894).

Re: I feel better now
Of my mdl 94s, only a couple have seen a jacketed round, even fewer factory rounds. I believe I still have 3 boxes of .30-30 I bought in the '90s from Wal-Mart @ their shelf price of >$8/box!

.
At least the cases seem to last forever and 30 calibers are fairly common one with a fairly huge selection of bullet types and weights. As a compromise between a straight-walled case and a super bottleneck magnum it seems like there are a lot of different powders and primers that will work as well.

I stocked up on 150 gr. a few years ago and never saw any 170 gr. in my area until now. Same CoreLokt stuff. I better grab some.

I will feel better when primers are back on shelves somewhere.

The guy at Academy on Bandera Road told me that they get them in regularly, but as soon as they hit the shelves, they are gone.bmtshooter wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 5:50 am I will feel better when primers are back on shelves somewhere.

That won't happen until we get a truly conservative government so people feel a sense of stability and trust.bmtshooter wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 5:50 am I will feel better when primers are back on shelves somewhere.

When that happens, buy them cheap and stack them deep.AJMD429 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 10:20 pmThat won't happen until we get a truly conservative government so people feel a sense of stability and trust.bmtshooter wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 5:50 am I will feel better when primers are back on shelves somewhere.
Re: I feel better now
Just found some 380 in San Marcos. They had lots of 9mm and 223, no 30 30 or 10mm or 270. Lots of 22.

Re: I feel better now
There were primers in the local Academy on Saturday. Not just a few boxes either.
This is good news.

Re: I feel better now
It's funny that there was no 30-30 for quite a while.
Now at the same time there was always plenty of 308 available!
The prices are generally crazy.
Lot's more 22 cal. shooting over bigger calibers.
