I spent an enjoyable afternoon with Nate Kiowa Jones ..

Post by JimT »

who is sometimes known as Steve Young .. drinking coffee .. swapping stories .. just have a great visit. Here's a guy who really knows leverguns and is only about an hour away from me! I am not sure why I waited this long to meet face-to-face! Big air bubble in my brain or something.

Anyway .. it was a good time and I am looking forward to doing it again!

I wish him well with his health.

I bought his video and kit for a Rossi 92. Very good video and the kit and tune up sure made a difference.

Is he still selling the Rossi 92 kits?

Jim and I have corresponded for years I think dating back to the 90's maybe. But it's only been in the last few years where we were close enough to have a sit down. It wasn't until we moved in 2013 from the coast out here to the hill country that we were close enough to put it together. Even then it took us this long. Life sometimes gets in the way.
I really enjoyed the visit. I'm just an old farm boy with limited travel history. Jim comes from the same background, but he left the farm to see the world. Talking to him about his travels was fascinating. And of course, we had to talk about some guns and shooting. Mostly reminiscing about the days when we both still had good eyes.

I believe we've only met once, but have spoke quite a few times... sadly not recently... as you say, life gets in the way. I remember back in the late eighties, I did my first action job on a Rossi 1892... exactly the way he sez NOT to do it! But, I lucked out and it came out fine. The second one I did was a couple of years later and did it very similar to his recommended method. It also came out good, not quite as slick as my wife's rifle... but, that's probably because I was even more cautious about what I was doing!

I too, miss his posts here. Always informative!

He has some issues but is doing some better. However he is not taking on any new work .. at least not for the foreseeable future.

I sure hope Steve gets back to normal. A wealth of positive information. I have a bad habit of falling asleep after dinner usually wake up around midnight , just in time to watch a few hours of "Lone Star Law" about the Texas Game Wardens . makes Me wish I would have moved there when I was young.

Thanks for all the kind words, guys. I'm still here, just getting older and dealing with the health issues that come with it. The older I get the slower I get but hey, it is what it is.
