Texas Ranger badges

Post by Rusty »

I was watching a TV show where a U.S. Marshal goes to Mexico and talks to a Mexican National Policeman. The Policeman scoffs at the Marshall's badge saying a real man has a Texas Ranger's badge because it is made from a Mexican silver coin. I was wondering if anyone can confirm that ?

True dat... ISTR that it's a 50 Peso coin, from a time when they were still silver. Or was back in the day... modern Ranger badges... IDK.

That’s true. My badge for the Sheriff’s Department is made from an old Cinco Peso from when they were real silver.

The back side still bears the imprint from when it was stamped in the mint.

However, in North Texas the badge may be made from a Yankee silver dollar. Which is a different sized coin that a Mexican cop would spot immediately.

These badges we are talking about we’re not issued. The State had cheap badges that varied from time to time.

Lot of history in Texas. It was rather wild and uncurried at one time. The Rangers earned their reputation.
