Time to winterize the cabin again.

Post by 2ndovc »

I had another truck vs. building claim in PA on Wednesday, the building lost this one! The loss was just as close to our cabin outside of Bradford, Pa as it was to come straight home. Loaded up my travel dog and some shooters and off we went.
The place was really damp and moldy due to all the rain, but it was starting to dry out by this morning.
Checked the place over and made a repair list for next spring, knocked around some bowling pins with some big, heavy bullets and headed home. Wanted to stay the whole weekend, but I had several reports due today.

Lot's to do, but for 101 years old it's still standing. Sagging in a few places, but who isn't? :D

Cold and wet this morning, creeks and rivers were moving fast. Got home to flood watches.

Always nice to see pics of your family's cabin. I know you've shown them before, but what are your revolvers again ?

My Bowen SBH that goes everywhere and a S&W .455 Webley Hand Ejector. It's been nickel plated, but it's a favorite. I got it out of the safe a month or so ago. Forgot how much I loved shooting it.
Those along with the M&P 9mm and the FrankenFinn incase the red squirrels attack. :D

For sure! We have a lot to do up there next year. The shutters on the front slider are going to have to be rebuilt. I can make those here and take them with me, so no biggie. The big issue is; there's a large soft spot in the kitchen floor. Going to have to cut out a large section and replace it. My big fear is what the joists look like and who knows what else is under there. Might find Jimmy Hoffa?

OW,
I'll put your name on the list of people that want the .44 after I drop dead, but it's a long one already. :D

Better take some pressure treated 2x8s and maybe some 4x4s or even 6x6s so you can sister joists and crib up.
As for Hoffa, I just saw him the other day oh wait that was some sleepy guy on the news!

And several bags of Quickcrete and some 4x8x16 solid blocks. Need to stabilize that main beam. I'd love to run a drain tile under there, the water table is so high, it's only dry for a few months out of the year.

Might have to take the boys along next spring and really get into it. Need to make sure it makes it through the next 100 years. :D

Thanks Guys!

The place has been in our family since 1967. Making sure it will stay that way. My sister is part owner now, but I have control over what happens. Not that she would do anything, she loves the place too. Just doesn't get up there often.
