For those who might be interested, I've got several boxes of Win 22Mag Dynapoint ammo that leads my guns up pretty good and hated them for that reason!
A while back when JimT was writing about his reloading 22LR I decided to go ahead and get the 22Mag reloading set along with the sizer die and shell holder.
Had a box laying around in plain sight and decided to pull ONE round and dump the powder into a 223 case along with a Lee 55gr cast lead bullet with no gas check and try that out, worked just fine as a reduced load. Then I decided to try ONE round of the 22Mag with the same cast bullet stuck in the 22Mag case and crimped with the bullet casting/crimper that comes with the reloading kit. Pulled my Marlin 983 out and ran it through the tube magazine (safety on) to see if it would feed, then proceeded to fire it, all the while hoping I wouldn't mess up said Marlin. That also worked ok with no leading, BTW bullet was cast with Lyman #2 lead coated with Lee liquid alox and sized to .225". Loaded to 1.387" OAL. Weighed the powder and came to 3.4gr of whatever powder Winchester used for this cartridge.
Die used was the Lee Universal case expander die, both inserts with the small one first to flare the case mouth and then just the larger one to seat the bullet to 1.387" OAL. Now to go out and see how they group.
Only got 400 more to go!
