I wanted one so badly when I was a youngster. They used to run ads about people using these for hunting.

I remember those....very cool.
I also believe that if honda brought back the old Trail series they would sell every one of them.

My in-laws had something similar when they lived down in the eastern plains area. They could fit the whole family on it as they'd head to church or town or wherever. Don't know what ever happened to it. I think theirs was one that the engine part could be disconnected and connected to farm implements, but don't know for sure.

I am not much of a mechanic, but I can see how those would be easy to build and work on. A simple centrifugical clutch, like a chain saw or a go-kart uses would be what I would use. Keep all nuts and bolts to two sizes. Spares would be easy to find that way. Lawn mower parts for some things.
I never saw one, but if I can think of those things, it is pretty certain that the folks who made them saw it, too. I can take a Briggs & Stratton lawn mower down to just pieces and reassemble it and it will run. If I can do it, millions of other folks can do it, too. No wonder they used them. I can still get parts for almost any Briggs lawn mower engine ever made. Replacing the shear key is easy enough.
If someone would bring them back, and make a trailer frame to hitch it up, I would sure be interested. Between parts from my local Harbor Freight, local Northern Tool, and the hardware stores, I think I could build one. I have a wire welder. I have a drill press. There is a local bicycle shop which carries or can get almost any type of padded seats you could want. Use a bicycle seat and the post so that it could be adjusted for individual comfort. Without any suspension, a padded spring suspension bicycle seat could be a lightweight and simple way to save your butt and back.

I still have a Zuma 125 that hasn't ran for about 10 years....I should have it reconditioned and see if it still might have some usefulness for me.....

Re: Anyone remember the Tote Gote?
Scott, I, too, was sick for a Tote Gote back in the 1960s. For years I kept a set of plans out of Popular Mechanics for building a simple one with a lawnmower engine, but I could not interest Dad in the slightest in helping me build a "motorcycle," as he did not hold with them.
Finally had a Honda Ruckus for a couple of years a while back. Fun to ride, but not very capable off road. Still dream about building a Tote Gote facsimile.

I recall them well, and also recall many guys building their own versions at home in their garage. If I remember correctly, there was a company selling kits or frames too, so you could build your own easier.
The one I always wanted was a Rokon 2 wheel drive motorcycle! They would climb anything, and go over large downed trees trunks! Just an amazing motorcycle that I thought would be far better for hunting.
They still sell them today, and have since 1958!

I'm not done yet. I was going to go out looking a bikes today, but all the shops around here are closed on Sunday. Guess it's been awhile since I bought a new one.
There's a couple of Kawasaki's I want to look at. i want something bigger than the dual sports I've had in the past, but I want to be sure I can still handle the weight. Five years later, I still have a ways to go.

I need a knee replacement before I ride any kind of dirt bike again. But if I can get Kathy stabilized for a couple of months in a row, I'm gonna do it.
