Make a pivoting folder. Where the handle slides in a curve level with the spoon. Sort of a sideways fold. Then have a sliding rectangle of wire that moves over it and sort of locks it in place.

Made a couple of the other type this morn, i don`t have any good carving tools so i use the side grinder for everything.
Used a 44 SP. for the rivet.

Dug it out a little more with a hoof sole knife, ordered a hooked knife that will do a better job.

Very clever design Lenn!
I'll bet if you used a square nail or copper rivet (vintage style) my twin, the blackpowder guy, and his buddies would carry them on their treks into the woods.
The square nail could be left a little long so that it would be able to be pushed up for the spoon to swivel open and then pushed down to lock it. There are other methods. Something would work for the woodwork.

Pitchy, if you would take orders, there are lots of folks who do the mountain man reenacting who would buy the spoons.
