I agree. This old Ruger is a prime example.

I don’t know how many rounds I’ve put through it but shooting it was like eating popcorn....a little bit won’t do! The only issue I ever had with it was that the front sight was just too short. But it would not hurt my feelings if this was my only gun.

In this day and age where everyone wants the latest whiz bang gun with all sorts of bells and whistles! I still tell anyone who asks what "first handgun should I buy?" that they should consider a good DA revolver. Having a new shooter handed any of the latest semiautos, and then give them a little hands on and turning them loose is stupid at the least. Most will forget how to flip the safety on, and some wont even remember to rack the slide to chamber a round. Add to that the possibility of a misfire, or jam, and now a beginner is really lost.
Give them a DA revolver, some good safety training, and no matter what happens they'll be able to defend themselves, and not have any trouble with function.

A good revolver is probably the most accurate handgun anyone will ever use. I have a 1911 that is simple to use and quite accurate, but my GP100 is absolutely idiot proof.

It's funny when I talk to the young guy's they cant understand why anybody would want a revolver in the first place. I enjoy revolver's as much as my semi auto's, Probably a lot more! There's only two style's of semi auto's I have left. Colt 1911's and few classic P series Sig P228 and P229. The west German 228 is one fantastic pistol! It's pushing 30 year's old and is as good as the day it was made! I don't own any fire arm with plastic in it. With the exception of the butt plate's on my early 80's Marlin 1894's. My best gun at this point is my 1982 Marlin 1894 in 357 and a 1970 Remington Wingmaster in 12 gauge with a skeet barrel.

That's funny. I carry a revolver every day when I am in the City. It's not that I cannot run an auto. I have several and I enjoy them. But there is something special about what a short .357 can do up close and personal.

When I am on the ranch, I carry a little larger revolver, but it probably will still be a .357 unless I'm hunting.

As others have said - make it simple, and make it familiar.

It IS hard to go wrong with a DA 357 revolver. Dirt simple.
Front sight - PRESS! No safeties, no questioning if there's
a round in the chamber - no nothing. Point and go.

1911 or Hi-Power: We carry suchlike cocked and locked; safety on.
Draw and wipe the safety down as one finalizes one's grip.

Beretta 92? Safety OFF, hammer down, round in the chamber.
(Upward safety sucks on that gun, so we don't use it.)
Aforementioned scenario works just like a DA revolver for the first round.

Glock? Just like DA revolver. Front sight - PRESS!

I can see the use of a hair trigger on rifle, but not on a combat handgun.

I use the term press when moving something away from me. Pull or squeeze is what means to move it my direction. I press a button by moving it away. I pull the tab on a fizzy drink to move it toward me and cause the edge to press down and away from me thus opening the can.

Since we are actually referring to the same motion when talking about triggers, it really is six of one and three pairs of the other.

If "Best" is defined as what I entrust my life to? Then when I get it back from being refinished... my Combat Commander


If "Best" is measured by shooting excellent scores... (in my hands), the S&W mdl 65


And if "BEST" is being described as fun, then it has to be my Colt 2nd Gen 1851s
