What's your favorite tree rat gun?
My favorite is a Rem. 541S .22LR. Redfield Wide Field 4X.
I bought this rifle & scope new in 1978.
It has accounted for hundreds of PA. Squirrel, Groundhogs,
and numerous other critters over the yrs.
Best load for this rifle is the Win. T22 standard velocity.
This rifle is capable of bullet through single bullet hole performance. (indoor range, prone position. yea I'm a braggin )

my favorite is the 1897 .22lr with a tang peep site. load it up and roam all day. CASASTAHLE, we should get together and shoot some since we both hail from York, Pa
My Dad found this gun was he was a kid. It has a tang sight w/ adjustable aperature and a folding rear sight. Take-down. I don't know who made it but it is a Wards-Western Field .22 pump. Killed probably near 100 squirrels in the neighborhood when I was growing up. Still use it to take squirrels and rabbits, only I don't shoot in the neighborhood anymore (not allowed). It likes Federal LR best.

Heavens no, just illegal to use semi-auto rifles.Ysabel Kid wrote:A .22 LR is illegal for squirrel hunting in PA?casastahle wrote:Sweet lookin rifles there Ysabel Kid
Only problem, they be a might illegal here in PA.
Semi-auto shotguns are okay with a 3 round limit for small game.
Not for deer.
Go figure
My original 22M/20 Savage 24 has probably taken more squirrels for me than any other long gun.
This one was a fun one, but didn't get used enough and got sent on it's way. Spooky accurate.

Someone please enter a picture of there 9422 then we will be back on track.
Well, I've no lever action squirrel rifles, but EVERYONE knows that the single action's the next best thing (or better). So here's my current favorite.

Guilty as charged! I was taken pictures for firearms profiles I have on each member of my collection. The white countertop of that island in my old kitchen was perfect, but I had to get up high to get a picture of a rifle. I was lazy - still in my slippers as you can see - and just hoped up on a chair, then edged over to the side of the island top. Almost fell off too!!!salvo wrote:Ysabel Kid, are you standing on the corner of that table or is that some kind of optical illusion
Who knows? But no semi auto shotguns or rifles for big game. No semi auto rimfires for small game. No centerfire for small game period.Ysabel Kid wrote:Oh, for Pete's sake! Just bought a full choke for my 28 ga. 1100. Plan on go squirrel hunting next weekend and will see how it does. I've never hunted them before, but I figure a tight pattern of 3/4 oz of #6 or #7 1/2 should do the business. Will hit the patterning board this weekend to get an idea of what I can expect for an effective range.

I think your old Ward's pump is a Savage.86er wrote:My Dad found this gun was he was a kid. It has a tang sight w/ adjustable aperature and a folding rear sight. Take-down. My favorite squirrel gun is a old Stevens 66 bolt action, with a K4 Weaver full size scope.

I enjoy hunting squirrels the most with a 39A with a Williams 5dD or my Marlin 25MN with 4x Nikon but the gun that has taken the most small game has been an old Stevens 58B bolt action .410. I lost count years ago at the number of rabbits and squirrels that have made their way into my frying pan thanks to that old .410.
If you can see the big picture, you are not focusing on your front sight.

Don't have a photo of it and it too darned humid to go dig it out , but I've knocked off a LOT of brown and red sqls. w/ my Satinless 10/22 w/ a Burris scout scope tuned by Chief AJ ( a Midwest Ruger Guru). Probably the most deadly rifle I own.

Now that's just plain funny!
