Just a sittin here and browsing for my next gun. need advice
On md home mandated quarantine and furloughed from work, and started saving pocket change for my next pistol,( up to 22.00 bucks now ) I have a big bore and intermediate size bore semiauto, (and single actions). I am looking for a semiauto for my 22lr. Narrowed it down to a walther colt 1911 .22lr railgun, or a ruger 22/45 mark iv, have .22lr ammo out of the wazoo.. looked at the 1911 for the single action feature and the ruger mark iv as they have been out for a long time and now are easier to breakdown via rear pushbutton slide release. Any body have any of these? opinions? other makes recommendations. Price is one deciding factor and figured these are good models for the bucks.. They both go for around 300.00. depends on where u look. thanks

Re: Just a sittin here and browsing for my next gun. need advice
i have an older ruger "automatic", forget the actual designation but it's about the second iteration of Ruger's first pistol. I found one for about 220$ and it still shoots straighter than an arrow and mags are still available. I've never had any problem putting it back together
you can get a converter for an AR and shoot 22LR... so if you have an AR pistol you can use your ammo with it.

Re: Just a sittin here and browsing for my next gun. need advice
I got the Ruger for easy suppressor attachment. It makes it better for quiet pest dispatch around the farm, and better for teaching new shooters (they are less flinch when the gun is quiet). I have a 22LR converter that fits 1911's and it is fun too, but not threaded, and I did put a compact red-dot on the Ruger so can hit way more accurately with it.

I can't imagine a better or more accurate .22 Auto than my older MKII Government Model Target...I can't speak to the new ones, but I've heard they are just as good.

I just got this before Christmas, and have put 300 rounds thru it. Accurate...no failures so far, and it's a full size 15 round replica of the M9.

Another vote for the Ruger Mark semi-auto pistol.

Well the grand old Hi Standards are great but kinda pricey.
Ruger Mk series are great too !
Not sure what your tastes are but I see the new G44 (?- dont remember the #) should hit the streets at about 400 bucks.
Of course the Buckmark is a good gun too.
Oh heck any of em are good !

I have two MKII Rugers, a Colt Second Model Match Target and a ' 59 vintage five screw S&W 17. The Colt is the most accurate but I shoot the Rugers more often and have less than $200 into either of them. They are just fun pistols and utterly reliable.

I put an aimpoint red dot on it, and it already came threaded. with the suppressor on there, the only problem is how much ammo my friends go through... men, women, children everyone just keeps shooting it. often take it in the case with my ruger takedown 10/22 that is threaded for the same suppressor.
hard to beat either one of those.

I have been shooting my 22/45 with the heavy barrel for over a decade. It is very accurate and reliable. I can put any 1911 grips on mine. I use the pachmyers.

Re: Just a sittin here and browsing for my next gun. need advice
right now I am leaning toward the ruger 22/45 bull barrel. From what i can see from cleaning videos on utube as compared with other .22 models is that is there is no screws to remove or lose. The victory has the problem of the barrel screw coming loose, but they make a kit to address that problem, the browning buck has two or three screw to remove for the barrel depending on the model. I'm sure they are all very good guns to shoot. Just want one that is easier to disasssemble and reassemble. (also the ruger is 287.00 at my dealer new, if i can find one used for cheap , I will grab that) Keep throwing more makes and models guys, i am still in research mode.

Re: Just a sittin here and browsing for my next gun. need advice
Inhave three semi auto 22 pistols a Ruger heavy barrel, my paternal Grandfathers High Standard, and my Maternal Grandmother’s High Standard Model “A”( Inhave a Fiayla also but it ain’t semi) of the three I regularly shoot the Ruger with and without a suppressor. If I was gonna get another semi 22, it would be another Ruger. Just my 2 pennies worth.

Re: Just a sittin here and browsing for my next gun. need advice
In '96 I got a Ruger Mk II (my first semi-auto), 6" bbl. In all the rounds fired since IIRC, I have had one or at the most 2 FTFs (and that was with some Remington hyper 22 lr). I have had reflex sights and now it is wearing a scope (2x Bushnell) and it is waaaay more accurate than I can hold, even from a rest. Unless I was very fortunate and unless Ruger has changed, I would highly recommend the Ruger semi-auto...

Re: Just a sittin here and browsing for my next gun. need advice
well, I just bought the ruger 22/45 in 22lr today, 320.00 bucks plus tax and 10.00 state police fee. They had to order it and will it also do a 7 day jail term before i can get my paws on it . The pistol range is closed anyways due to the virus. I like the ease of stripping and claning of the pistol. and the ruger has, from i've read on the net, a hell of a warranty, lifetime and transferrable .

The Ruger Mk's pretty much apexed with the Mk I Target model. Everything since then has been nothing more than an attempt to sell more guns by adding needless features. If you can find one with either the 5 1/2" or 6 7/8" (my favorite) barrel go for it.

Re: Just a sittin here and browsing for my next gun. need advice
The Ruger is a very good gun and a long history of reliability and accuracy. I've not owned any newer ones, but the older ones sure were great guns. That said, if I was looking for a new .22 I'd have to seriously look at the Walther-Colt 1911 because it's a 1911 .22 made by a company with a great reputation, and I love 1911 style guns.
But I have a 1967 Colt Commercial with the Ace conversion, so no reason to buy another 1911 .22 pistol. But if I saw one of these cheap enough I might still be tempted!

I have a conversion kit for my 1911. The .22 lr in it is plenty accurate as well as a lot of fun.
