Sad time ahead.

Post by gamekeeper »

Shirley and I took her dog Rebel on a one-way trip to the vet this morning, we left him there hoping that we could bring him home later but a phonecall from the vet saying that it's time to say goodbye to the little feller, his kidneys had failed. So RIP Rebel, the little dog with a heart like a lion, I have never known a dog get so excited at the sight of a gun, as soon as I picked one up he knew the hunt was on. If you find any Squirrels up there Rebel give 'em Hell.

Sorry to hear Gamekeeper. I have a couple that know even before I get the gun out---they know by how I dress. Then when we are out and the safety or hammer clicks, they are all on for it.

Tough deal, I lost three of my best friends the last two years, they are buried under a tree in the yard. Often brings a tear to my eye or a good memory when I walk by it. But there was some light in it, when I lost the one, I gained 14 little ones from her and after a long period of animal husbandry, two stuck with me.

Best wishes,
Jon.

Some of the lowest days in our lives have been when we had to have pets put down. They become such a major part of a family, and their loss is tough to explain to non pet owners. Sorry to hear about your little dog.

So sorry GK. It is never an easy thing. They are such loyal companions and give us so much.
They go on ahead to scout the way. He will be waiting to greet you once again.

:( :(

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

What moves me is the times when it is the other way around - when the dog has to grieve the 'owner' passing.... That is what proves that there IS a deep emotional bond, and it IS two-way, even though the canine is just an 'animal'.... :|

So very sorry for your loss, gamekeeper. I have experienced that loss four times so far, and I know I'm not far from the fifth. I have no words of comfort, only understanding and empathy.

Right now, I have our old Chihuahua on my lap. She likes PillHer, but I belong to her. I sit down and here she comes. She is old, but I don't know how old. She was given to us when she got too old to have any more puppies. The Irish Terrier is sitting about 3 feet away just watching me. Dogs are each one an individual. When our son was 4 years old, we got him a puppy. We let the two of them pick each other out at the pound. She is the only dog so far whom I have done the honor of burying in the back yard. Losing her hurt the most. We have moved forward, but she will never be forgotten. On some dark nights I still see her standing guard out there. The other dogs shut up and go back to sleep when they see her. The neighbor's pit bull whines and runs away when she is there.

Loosing a dog is the hardest thing I have experienced. Nothing I can say will make you feel better, the passing of time is the only thing that helps.

I will be in the same boat with you soon. I have a 19 year old mostly blind and deaf curr sleeping on the couch with me. I have three other dogs, the youngest is 10 years old. I dread the days to come when they finally pass.

Sorry for your loss, It's hard to lose your companion...It's been some years now that I had to put my Border Collie down, She was a rescue, spent every waking second with me and was the toughest farm dog I've ever seen. Thinking about "super dog" still brings tears to my eyes, and I'm not a touchie feelie guy...

I'd like to think my wife will miss me that much,,,, 8)
