Back when I owned sixgunner.com we got visted all the time by various government agencies. Quite a few of them in fact.

I didn't start worrying about it until the black helicopters started following me around.

Even those weren't too bad. It was when I started discovering tiny recording devices inside the toilet paper rolls, on the back of cereal boxes, and inside the telephones that I got worried.

The itty bitty video cameras mounted on the back of trained cockroaches finally convinced me to get out of the web business.

I thought we were OK but lately I have discovered that the one-worlders have put reflective stickers on the backs of the road signs. Different stickers lead to different interment camps being quietly set up around the country, disquised as Super Wal-Marts.

They are on the back of our signs since the one-worlders drive on the other side of the road. This will allow them to transport detainees at night.

It's gonna start happening when the gas-rationing and the curfews (because of the gas riots) go into effect.

...Do you or I need one of these guns? Well, yes. Of all the firearms out there, these are closest in technical specifications to fulfilling our responsibilities as members of the unorganized militia. They are eminently useful guns for purposes other than those for which the designers intended. Each computer has an IP address. (Internet Protocol) Each time that computer accesses the internet its IP address is used to communicate with other computers so that it is able to access the information. Each IP address is assigned according to who the ISP (Internet Service Provider) is, what country it's located in, etc. Each internet server (the computer on which a website resides) logs the visits to it. Those logs can be interesting. They also log the search words used to find the particular website. If you think DHS finding Hobie's blog via a search for "Shooting With Hobie" is interesting, imagine the results of a search for Hobie's OTHER blog which you can turn up with a search for "old soldiers bare all"...

I've not taken a look at the logs here for some time. It might be quite interesting. I know we've a number of members from a wide variety of police agencies. It'd be interesting to check out some of the "guests"...

All too often folks don't realize that what they are posting on a public forum is available to anyone and everyone who cares to check it out. Statements made here (and any other forum) CAN come back to bite you...

On regular websites, if you access to the server logs (which most webmaster do have) you can read who logged onto the site, what their IP address is, who their provider is, where the logged on from (including country of origin - their server etc.), the type of computer they have, the screen resolution and often several other bits of data such as date, exact time etc.

Most of the data collected is needed to tell the server exactly how to transmit the website to your particular computer. That's why it's called a "server" .. it "serves" the proper data to each computer.

Wow, I must have accidentally stumbled on to this site today - wonder of wonders, someone has evidently stolen my identity and signed on with all kinds of posts about "leverguns" - whatever they are. Hmmm. My only hobby is collecting toy trains and playing chess.

It would be nice if we could count on the people-who-are-supposed-to-catch-real-criminals spending more time finding murderers, rapists, and terrorists, than just trolling around to see what .30-30 owning hilljack may speak out too much about wanting our nation to remain a free country rather than degenerate into a tyrannical dictatorship. I guess nowdays voicing any opinion makes some think you're a psycho out to 'overthrow' the government.

No we're NOT - but we still like to think we are allowed to voice opinions, and encourage each other to write legislators and vote for decent candidates. Isn't that ok anymore...?

Ironically, the bunch on this forum are probably the most law-abiding, decent citizens one could collect, and are FAR from a danger to society, but rather an asset.

Hey! Mine was for ham and cheese omelets! Felt I should add that I know that because I got my subliminal message screening program (works like the pop-up blockers) which gives me a report. Thank goodness. I also found I can play my computer backwards to decode those subliminal messages from satan/Ahmadinejad.

As a tangential observation on the whole "data mining" thing, this will get your dander up....

There is a VERY strong movement to get ALL health care records on-line, i.e. on the NET. Your prescription, hospital, and laboratory and X-ray records nearly all are already there (we access them daily for our patients).

The office records are often not YET, especially if you mostly go to small practices not owned by hospitals or HMO's (if you can find any practices like that in your area, that is). However, states are moving rapidly with legislation to REQUIRE all health records be on-line. Indiana only fell a few votes shy of passing the requirement this past year. Doctors and pharmacists may balk, but remember, in order to practice, the government must license us, and they can make having on-line records a condition for licensure.

The alleged rationale for this is to assure information is available to other doctors (but the computerized information isn't always available nor accurate) and to reduce errors (dependence on computer software is like depending on a gun's mechanical 'safety' - it can foster sloppiness and increase errors, as has been shown).

The REAL rationale is pressure from insurers to be able to data mine 24 hours a day, to find excuses to not pay for things, to find reasons to pressure doctors to cut costs (cut corners if you ask me), and government desire to access the records for those same reasons (most health plans have some component of government subsidy) and I suppose unfortunately in case someone important wants to use some personal information against you.

Of course we all know how 'private' things are once they are on the internet, regardless of regulation, security protocols, etc.

At least the teenage hackers and alphabet employees will be able to read about Mrs. Smith's problems with vaginal dryness, or Mr. Jones' erectile dysfunction or depression. Think gun permit denial for Mr. Jones, huh!

Only three generations in our family (slow reproducers) separated cell phones from general Custer's death, and that is simply too much technology for any culture to absorb without problems.

That's interesting! I have a fly fishing blog. And whenever I publish a post about an Orvis product, within 12 hours I get a hit from the Orvis.com domain. I think it's someone's jobs to constantly google their company name, find out who is saying what. On one occasion an Orvis rep posted a comment (a very helpful one at that).

Recently I put up some stuff about a vacation to Kentucky, and got two hits immediately from their tourism department.

Coming in late here but that is crazy. What key words made them look at your site and more importantly, why did they stay so long? One glance and you can tell it is just a shooting/hobby site with no sinister intent. Gonna be thinking about this one for a while. Be interesting to compare notes with other website folks who have similar software that picks up on who's been there and see if they've experienced these same "visits".

I get on computers from work when ever I can. I work for the Feds, till January anyway. Our computers are monitored to make sure we don't visit eveil sites like yours , and most of the time it's blocked.
