Wow! Screened in dooryard!?
That IS highbrow! :D

We just lit up a big ol' pile of tires. That usually kept the black flies and skeeters down.
Of course, the next day while at work at the gas station, I usually had to clean all the black hardened blobs of melted tire off the truck.
Good times buddy! :D

I don't see my foxes often but I know they appreciate the pheasant carcasses! They are gone hours after I put them at the fox tree out back.

105 grand for a bunch of stuffed shirts standing around drinking champagne and babbling to each other about how 'good' they are! Nope not me, heck we left our senior prom and went bowling!

Well looks like more rain most of the day, I'm really getting tired of rain!

I emailed the owner of the stud I'm really interested in. I saw this dog 2 years ago as a puppy and he was very good looking then. Im going to go see them next week I hope. 2 hours away so it's going to shoot a whole day.

Yes Six, it is just an everyday event as to what to get into action. The grill has been inactive so it is all indoor, heat and meat for the most part and eggs of course.

Going to be interesting how these politics play out. Dems are torching each other and Trump is throwing gas on the fire.

Yea Griff...sure looks clean......dry weather in Texas has got to help some. One thing for sure .....and YOU and maybe Fred will remember the junk put out by car manufacturers in the sixties to early nineties......the sixties was the worst.....maybe two years before the rust started.......and once it started it never stopped......kind of reminds you of foreign guns...j-u-n-k....

At work I remember a guy bought a spanking new 1972 Chevy pick up in Oct. '71 and by April '73, 18 months later the bed and rear fenders were rusting right on through to the other side. He raised all kind of hell but it seems they were all like that.

Gunny..is your dodge rusting?

Yup. It's true. :D
The old Hemi is a 2014. It's got 75k on it. Everywhere you go here is a drive. Will have to do something soon before it starts rusting.
If you want to keep it up here, you either put it up winters or spray under it with oil.
Old Red is a 97 with 177k on it. I ran it to work for years. Still has original paint and no rust. Been sprayed with oil. It gets put up now.
My dad has a 98 Dodge 2500 with 70k on it. It's been sprayed all it's life.

Yes, the rear wheel wells are rotting through. Stupid engineers alway put a flat lip in the wells, hold mud, salt and they always rot here. Otherwise the rest of the truck is clean except for dents and dings. Buddy of mine does a lot of fabricating and I might see if he can make stainless parts, just cut out the rot and use some of the new fangled adhesive to stick em on.

Coming east eh Griff? You will have to keep us posted, might be able to swing a meet & greet with Six,Ford and myself?

Interesting couple homes I've been at past two days!
Yesterday was at a house that was built well into the 1800. Not that interesting I know but in the front steps was a large rock with a 6" long capital R chiseled into it. The home owner is an historian. From what he says this R was a marker stone for when the area was originally surveyed in 1700. This line was from the Deleware Rive east the point on the house location. R was the first letter of the surveyor last name. The owner is writing a book about this guy.

Today we were at a home listed on the national historic list. Why? Well none other than George Washington spent time here! The house is quite large for pre/post revolutionary. Low doors, very ornate mouldings, you can feel the history. The current owners have it as a summer place, one roof has been leaking, kitchen ceiling fell down last night!

Rust is lack of cleaning, several times during the winter I get my rain gear on, go to the car wash and crawl around under my truck and and wash the crud off. I like Jays deal with the oil after washing the underside.

That's really cool! I love history. Not much of that stuff up here.

Harry,
I'm sure there are good products out there. There are several in use now. However, I have sprayed oil through an undercoating gun for 30 years and I KNOW it works.
Anything that makes a barrier will NOT work. It has to be able to penetrate welds and body seams. That is where rust gets a foothold and cannot be stopped. That is why you fix and repaint and it comes right back. The oil creeps into every place the water and salt does. Another benefit is everything comes apart easy when you work on it.
Just dirty. :D

Back when we had dirt roads a neighbor would spray the under carriage of his car with oil and then drive a dry dusty road. The dust stuck to the oil creating a barrier. No more dirt roads...

We don’t have as much trouble with road salt as some places, where I lived in Wyoming they didn’t use any except on some state hi ways, they used sand mainly some coal cinders. Salt won’t work at -40, the nastyness was in the summer, they used a soy based emulsion on the dirt roads to keep the dust down and when it rained it was like driving in gear oil with a little sand thrown in for good measure.

Gunny,
The dust sticking to the oil isn't the kind of barrier I'm talking about. What that does is make a "paste", and it will still "breath". There isn't a skin over it.
Last year, I kind of proved this theory as Old Red had this paste on the frame built up at least a quarter inch thick. I wondered if the oil was no longer getting to the frame and it was rusting under it. We scraped it down so we could start over. The frame still looked new. Old Red is a 97 with 177k on it.

Harry,
Yes. They use that calcium stuff on dirt roads here too. It is nasty. So is sand on the road. It sits in any pockets in the body. It builds up over time and doesn't dry out. It doesn't accelerate rust like salt, but it does accelerate it.

Ok Fred....I'll be waiting.......I need all the help I can get.........sometimes I can't even see the end of my nose let alone the front sight.........

I noticed Jay calls his old red Jeep "Old Red" .....mmmmm ...I wonder if his coat was big enough to steal "Ole Yeller"....got to go check......................Ok, still there.....

The steel used in the sixties through the eighties was recycled junk and I'm guessing they didn't have or want to pay for the technology to properly analyze the steel they were using.........another thing, why did certain manufacturers have "hidden areas" on vehicles that would accumulate dirt but you couldn't wash it out, like behind the lower door or a YJ Jeep?

After I bought my new 2005 Jeep, I went out and spent a couple of hundred on high dollar undercoating spray and did it myself...still looks somewhat new......on "Ole Yeller" I would wait until we had a week of hot dry weather, then powerwash everything underneath real good, wait a day and spray on 4-8 cans of Rust-Oleum satin black paint....I was able to get every spot except that part behind the lower door. :D

Ole Yeller .....
