another DOGFIGHT

Post by Grizz »

this story of this SBD dogfight was also on t.v.... an incredible feat of endurance and dogged determination. the planes themselves are a marvel of technology, the simple and tough and effective kind of technology.

a couple of links that will get you into the story....

What 'SBD' stands for is Slow But Deadly! Because of it's built in strength it was fully aerobatic, so while it wasn't really all that fast, with a good pilot, it could hold it's own against whatever it pretty much came up against! That's why the rest of the flight was shot down, they had their heads up their butts instead of having their eyes outside the cockpits.
P.S. The Army version was called the A-24 Banshee.
