Where's my bottle of Alox?! I remember having a full bottle and a partial bottle... Ah found the full bottle but boy is it thick! Out to the shop for mineral spirits to thin it. Back to the house, walking through the kitchen, shaking the bottle and it flies out of my hand and the bottle cracks- now I'm glad it was thick!! Then I found the open bottle, had to thin that too.

A....yes, any wood, there's red maple, walnut, hickory, and Osage orange......I use each wood depending on the outside temps.

B....DOGS KNOW when we are leaving.....the night before I'll load up the Jeep and Miss Apple follows me unrelently.

Boy howdy does a Brittany hunt different than my Labs! Was fun to watch and hunt behind her. I batted clean up today, let the other 2 guys shoot first. BANG BANG ,BANG BANG, then I'd go BANG - dead bird. They weren't even taking feathers off them!
Rained out tomorrow so we are going to go monday afternoon and hunt the rest of the birds.

Gunny...are these birds pheasants? I know you shoot another kind of bird...can't remember.....

Do you have a favorite shotgun...I'm sure you do......I know little about shotgunning and like to learn from the best as when I used to pheasant hunt, it was high brass number 6's, most always Winchester Western ammo. In those days, it was five bucks plus a box about an hours take home pay. A box would last me pretty much the whole season. I used a 32-20 for squirrels.

Long day running the chain saw......you ought to see the mountain of wood I'm building off to the side. One thing about a Stihl chain saw.....they run! I probably have 12 cords cut with that saw since I bought it a couple of months ago...no issues .....pure 91 octane Stinger racing gas mixed 40-1.

A buddy my age who is known to be one of the best small engine experts in the surrounding 200 miles....or more...told me, NEVER to mix it 50-1....he said 40-1 maximum and if your running them hard, use it 32-1. I told him the manual says 50-1 and he laughed telling me he does this for a living and 50-1 is an EPA thing and the chainsaw companies will just replace the saw for the small amount of customers who burn em up saying it's "part of doing business.....he told me to clean out the spark arrester on occasion and keep the plugs replaced more often.

I was watching this show on "Extreme motorcycles" where these top riders do loops in the air and all kinds of crazy stuff.....I watched the gas they used.....they didn't say but it was the same blue 5 gallon can I use, Stinger......

Yup, mostly pheasant but some chukar as well.

I bounce around on which shotgun I hunt with. Mostly I'm using my Rizzini 28 ga side by side, sometimes my Ruger Red Label 28 or when I'm feeling adventurous I'll bring out the CZ 410.

I have a small stihl, I prefer my husqvarna saw. To me the stihl saws are kinda clunky, but that's my opinion. Logger buddy of mine talked me into buying a PRO grade saw and I'll never buy a homeowner saw again! Depot, lowes, and other places sell homeowner grade stuff. These aren't tuned to run high speed and they use lower grade parts. My Husky runs a 55cc jug with a 20" bar at 13,000 rpm. Throw a skip tooth chain on and it will cut rings around bigger homeowner saws.

My logger buddy used to run 100 low lead aviation gas in his saws, swapping plugs once a week or so but boy did his saws run!! He was a wizard at sharpening with a 3 square file, I tried it but couldn't get it right. Pete is gone to the happy hunting ground so I cant get him to teach me...

That's it...chukar.......what do they taste like...chicken? Even frog legs and rattlesnakes taste like chicken.

Down at Brandywine Hardware, where I get most all of my stuff they have a pretty full line of Stihls. These people are authorized Stihl dealers and they have a complete shop to,work on them....they do have some saws that costs over a grand to like 12-14. Mega saws.....if I did more sawing I'd get a bigger one ...poop.....I've cut more wood this year than the last 5-8 years combined. I have a little 18" Wood Boss (251) but it glides right on through Locust and goes through maple like it's not even there. A fair amount of the wood I'm cutting is wider than the bar.....pushing 30"....that's where a saw like yours is easier to cut with. My neighbor has one of those mega Stihls with a 30" bar.

As for sharpening I just hit it with one of the Sears Dremel tools with the flex shaft....after a few sharpening I just wing em and put on a new chain then use the old one for cutting roots, fence posts with nails and the like.

Gunny...the alox ........Put the bullets you want to lube in hot water for a few minutes. Do the same with the bottle of Alox....if your tap water is hot use that...you don't need boiling water.

Drain the water and dump the bullets on a towel and dry them .......put the bullets in a plastic container.....I use the ones that fresh food comes in, you know, shrimp salad, salads, etc......pour a small amount of alox on the bullets and swish around. Then spread the bullets out on wax paper or something that don't absorb or stick. Let em dry for a few hours. Or hit it with compressed air or a fan to speed that up.

The idea is to have warmish bullets and warmish Alox.--6

Chukar taste like chukar, I'm no gormet so I can't really describe the taste. Yeah all fowl are chickens to me, be they tweety birds or eagles. Chukar are about 1/3-1/2 the size of a pheasant ( depending on the pheasant) . This past summer I supplied a bunch of pheasant & chukar breasts and we had a big feast at the gun club- buffalo chicken style.

My Alox Has to be 20 years old. Thick because the solvents were evaporating out. I had to thin it just to get it out of the bottle. I tried to warm the bottle and it just didn't loosen up. It's good to go for now.
I just use a zip lock bag, put the bullets in add Alox and work in into the bullets. Then I spread out on wax paper, turn the bag inside out to dry too- then I have it for storage too.


Don't get me wrong, Sthil makes very good saws, just not my pick, I have lots of friends that use em .

Rainy today...no sawing or getting muddy......besides, Sunday is a day of rest.....think I'll mount a 2-7 Leupold on an 1889 Marlin 38 wcf made in 1891....it's a shame with this gun....it's like new money...almost.......good solid 90+ condition gun with a perfect bore but......previous owner d & t ed the top for a scope...barely noticeable but it's there.....

We now officially have several packs of coyotes in the area......my inlaws are custom butchers who also do the areas deer. Game wardens are there all the time checking legalities who relate stories......there's enough coyotes out there to get hit by cars and bow and arrow deer hunters are killing them......I've never seen one. Open season all year. ----6

Got cousins out in Oregon who work in the lumber industry. Stihl is their choice of saw for hard use 8 hours a day for an entire season. Not many otheres even come close to standing up to that sort of wear.

Recently in a county park a yote attacked a mother and her kids- supposedly the rabid. The Rangers got the offending yote. Apparently Rutgers has had a couple coyotes attack people on the campus- not one will be shot !

Oh and I just poured another 150 .41s.

Here you can see how the case is bulged and scratched from chambering in my Henry. Tight closing the bolt. Guess I'll have to break down and get a sizing die. The Blackhawk swallows them just the way they are.
When I loaded the first dummy I set the bullet at spec OAL- wouldnt feed from carrier to chamber. So I pulled it and put the case mouth into the crimp groove and they slip right up the carrier and down Hank's throat.
Then I loaded 20 rounds to test fire in both guns. Might do that tomorrow.

Went to pick up some free firewood since hadn't had time to cut and split enough (100% wood heat).

Had thrown my back out so was noteager to load/unload truck, but for freshest had to go for It. Wife along to help.

Got 15 miles from home and truck died.....

Shame you didnt break down AFTER you got the truck loaded- could have had the tow driver back into your driveway, pop the tailgate and raise the bed.

See Gunny.....Piller says Stihls are the best, not that cheap Swedish junk. Maybe Husqvarna would do better if they didn't have so many blonde babes hanging around the production lines giving the workers woodies. My dad liked Husqvarnas too, saying they were the best. (Hey! I always thought a "u" always follows a "q". How come it don't with Husqvarna?)

Your 41 "problem". Tight chamber...not a bad chamber just tight......tight chambers are match chambers. ..... .412 is only one thou. over standard sizing of .411 for cast....410 for jkt.

Carbide sizing die? They size tighter than a steel die and usually necessitate an expander that's larger to eliminate the bulge....ahhh, size em .411 and that should work. .410 will work with most cast loads but may lead a bit, depending on alloy/velocity used.

I do have an RCBS 41 mag mould but it's still new. I don't shoot a lot of 41 mag and the box of 1000 I bought some years back still shows a couple of hundred left which are .411.---6

Went to a Wild Bunch match yesterday. Not a fun time. I picked up my 45ACP ammo can and it felt light. Yep! 4 empty mags & 4 rounds. No problem, my extra 45ACP can is still half full of 200gr. H&G 68s. Load up truck, guns, ammo and head out. 1st stage, draw the 1911, rack the slide and let go... did you know that when you're focused on a down range target it's near impossible to see that your slide isn't all the way forward?

Had nearly every same happen about every 2nd or 3rd round do the same thing! Not a pleasant experience. By the end of the day the heel of my left hand very sore from slamming the slide with it. I was sure it wasn't the gun or my magazines, as they were the same ones I've been competing with for several years.

This morning I went out to the reloading shop to fill that 1st can... (abt 500 rounds). My tennis elbow was flaring up and made it to about round 18! Then, to prove to myself it was an ammo issue I went and shot them and some of those 200H&Gs with the same gun & mags I used yesterday, along with the GoPro to record the results... actually had all but 1 feed. Better result than yesterday. Then fired the 18 I loaded this am. 2-1/2 magazines. Not one FTF! I gotta learn how to edit my videos... 'cause it is rotten. Has all the salient points... it is more than twice as long as it needs to be.

Six I use an old set of RCBS dies, the box has a $26 price tag on it. I don't remember where I got them...? Yes they are carbide, hadn't thought about them being smaller! The 'drag' marks on the loaded round isn't all the way around the case, off to one side and that makes sense to the smaller dia die. I figured .412 would be perfect, maybe I'll see about adjusting the die some and try it again.

As far aa a "u" following a "q" I don't believe the Swedes have the same RULES that we follow.

Wow- Dodge Challenger SRT putting 797 hp on the ground! Gotta put one of those engines in Ol Yeller!

Ah........chainsaws.
It's rare that you step outside here and can't hear one. They are like cellphones here.
All mine are old. I have a "classic" Stihl. An old 028WB. It's a great old saw, but by today's standards, it's heavy and transfers too much vibration. It will also get hot in summer. My other two are just old and cheap Jeep and trimming saws. Couple old Homelite Super 2s. They run....but that's about all that can be said.
The newer Stihls are much lighter and smoother than mine, but that being said, my next new one will be Husky.
On paper, it isn't much lighter, but the balance is better than Stihl and makes it feel much more so. It is also smoother in shape and is just more comfortable. Turns up higher and will cut faster with less bind it seems to me, also.
Depending on what you are doing, "best" is relative. If you are standing in your dooryard cutting firewood, or stumbling around the woods felling and limbing.
There is still a lot of both here, with a fair amount of Johnsered too, but I think Husky is in the majority.

I actually set the expander a schoosh lower to try and alleviate that but all of the 20 pieces I loaded yesterday show some bulge, I guess I should really tear the dies apart and give em a clean & once over. I'm thinking Jack might be on to something with the resized too small...

Brother Jay, you look at em like I do, just you were more eloquent! Ive got a 30 yr old Echo twin cylinder, the smoooothest saw you could want to run but at 16 lbs ya gotta be Arnold to use it all day. My Husky is a dream to use, just over 5 lbs, it's 55 cc and runs like the proverbial assaulted ape!

Just finished leaves, up on the roof with the backpack blower to clean out the valley's, then all the way around the house, lawns- I H A T E L E A V E S!

Guns sense stress....no bs...and its usually us......when competing we are focus on the target, not proper manipulation/handling of the firearm....we may be "limp wristing", holding on to parts that should not be held, not enough focus on complete "completion" of manual operation.......I've seen it many times...lever/slide not fully closed......lever not opened up all the way....not complete release of trigger for reset......that's OK though, you did operate the Thompson SMG good enough to come back from Nam.....

Gunny....."bulges happen"...you can eliminate it with the above mentioned procedures but it's only cosmetic..if it works, do it!

Like.....if you didn't have a driveway that is defined. You just kinda pull up and park where it is convenient cause there is no lawn and just scattered junk, appliances, and non-running vehicles scattered around.

I work with a woman who's father passed away a few years ago. They were cleaning up his stuff and found out he had a storage shed in one of those storage garage facilities. They open it up and there is a freezer in there with a padlock on it. They open it up and there is a woman's body in it thats been missing for 20 years!
He had had that freezer in his basement for several years before. He had moved it at least 3 times.
The woman had been from N.H. They figure he killed her there and hauled her back home for safe storage.

Happier news- Claro hunted this afternoon, no sign of pain, yet! I warned the guys she was going to be wild and she was!

Oh Lordy......running the saw all day and guess what........the major part of the wood fiasco is DONE...DONE...DONE.!!!!!! It's dark now and I can't take a pic so tomorrow I'll get on the roof of the house and take a pic.....must be three dump truck loads of wood. The MIGHTY Kubota worked very hard today.

Yepppppp...mom googled "dooryard" and it came up as a New England term, notably MAINE! oh we prized ourself laughing....I NEVER saw Maine people as being hillbillies as they are everywhere....I mean ...geeze...Jay drives a truck that cost more than my house did. (44k in 1975)....His wife Kristy is sharp and wears high heels......when they came here I said to myself, poop, they are gonna think we are hillbillies.

Yea...the mob is busy in Gunnyland....always wondered how my Italian uncle (my dad's brother) came to be worth probably 25 mil with houses all over the US and Mexico with a building supply business in New Jersey. They find bodies around here too...the Tinicum marsh next to the Philly airport yields a few bodies every year........back in the seventies, they found a half dozen bodies buried a few miles down the road in the wealthy Chadds Ford area......they were from the Johnston gang who used to steal John Deere tractors and they eliminated some two legged rats.

I wasn't blaming the operator either. Hey I think we have all been there- heck yesterday I was struggling with getting a 28 ga reload into the barrel of my shotgun, the crimp wasn't that good. Bob says are you sure you want to shoot that? I said yeah it will work just fine. Yeah but it's not right he says- BANG dead pheasant. Worked just fine Bob! It was a federal hull, I have noticed all makers of shot shells are using junk plastic, 1 or 2 reloads and toss them.

That's a lot of little blue pills ya got there Six!

I could spend a lifetime riding around taking pictures of dooryards that would give hours of entertainment!
I can remember years ago, there was a place north of me that had an early 50s two ton truck parked on a lawn. It was all rusty and sunk in the ground halfway up the wheels. It had a cable running about 30 yards up to the second story side of a house. The whole house was leaning away from the truck at a pretty good angle. Looked like it had been holding that house a long time.
