They seem to have borrowed design queues from the F-117. I kinda like it.

AWD model is $49 K, body of cold-rolled stainless; 7,500 pound tow capacity; 250 miles on a charge. Only $100 puts you on the waiting list. 8)

Their video does a good job of never letting the consumer ever see the tiny little pickup box! I'm guessing since it's a 4 door the box might be 4' long and maybe 4' wide?

https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/tesl ... kup-truck/

I think I'll keep driving my old '69 Chevy Suburban. But maybe I'll pull the engine out of my current '39 Chev project and go electric!

I'll hold out until they get the solar charging option worked out. I mean if a solar charging Rover can be built, sent to Mars and run for 14 years, they must be real close to being able to build solar charging 4x4 pickups....right?

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/scie ... humankind/

I'm convinced we do not have viable solar powered vehicles because the Govt has not figured out how to tax sunlight....yet.

Thanks Pitchy! I spent 4 months repairing all the rusty parts on my '39 coupe. New floors, rocker panels, lower doors, lower 1/4 panels, tail panel, lower cowl panels. Basically the whole bottom 4" of the car. I put new engine, trans, and rear end, plus new front suspension and a conversion to disc brakes. A Chevy truck tilt steering column, and all new gauges and panel. Still a ways to go, but it's getting there slowly.
This was the day I brought it home in early April.

I know one guy here in mid Michigan who is on waiting list …… for him it is a 'business decision" as he is simply speculating that first year vehicle will be a collectors item in the future. Its what he does for a living.

https://thebaycitymotorcompany.com/

I suspect a number of other people on that list likewise are speculating and hoping to make a profit.

I struggle with conjuring the audience for this turdmobile.

Is there an untapped thirst among effete, man-bun sporting, patchouli oiled, Greta Thune worshipping, climate alarmists for pick-up trucks? What would they pick up? Crates of soy milk? Signs for the transgender anti-capitalist protest and confab? Large blocks of vegan stuff? I understand that some urban hipsters affect a look referred to as "lumbersexual", which apparently means dressing like a well-groomed, fashion conscious version of a lumberjack. Perhaps they are the market for a DeLorean shaped electric pickup with poor approach and departure angles?

I am mystified.

Hmmm... that will just barely get one between DFW and Houston... depending where you were leaving from in the metroplex and where you were going in Houston... It would probably run out of juice if you were just driving the outer loop around Houston... let alone actually going somewhere.

I'll hope that was just a camouflage body so other makers couldn't steal their actual styling cues...

When I think 'car', I think something fuel-efficient, and it can run on popcorn or chipmunk fanny burbs for all I care, and if it has computers and stuff I'm ok with it if it makes the drive easier, cheaper, or more pleasant.

When I think 'truck', I think something that ALWAYS starts, ALWAYS goes, ALWAYS works, and never, ever, ever gives me 'disk not formatted' or 'no internet access' or any kind of this-ain't-gonna-work message. I want it to run on fossil fuel of some sort, that it unless you can make one run on firewood. The new Dodge Ram advertisements boast of a "12 inch touchpad display..." That's the LAST think I want on a TRUCK.

Trucks are like guns - they just need to be basic and work reliably - and that generally means the less 'electronics' the better.

Now if you want to commute to work in a 'truck', more power to ya - THAT truck can have all the gadgets you want - but my 'farm' vehicle better have all the 'complexity' and reliability of a Uzi 9mm...

Dunno why you fellers compare this tesla abortion to a DeLorean. The DeLorean is actually a fairly conventional looking car. (for the 1980s) This tesla thing looks like it was dreamed up by a trekkie on LSD. (maybe it was) :?

The truck, if you can call it that, is about as close to being mainstream as the internal combustion powered vehicle is to being outdated. The advocates of this electric joke, show just how far removed from reality they are if they continue to embrace the electric technology that we currently have.

The example of the resistance to the horseless carriage of the late 19th century being similar does apply here, but what the electric proponents forget, is that the early horseless carriages were far from what they became 50 years later. If we look back at a 1965 Dodge Dart today, we can see how antiquated it is and yet it was such an improvement over the turn of the century cars.

America today is what is left of America of previous generations, that worked hard and did everything they could to make this a better place. Now we consider forward thinking, an electric truck that couldn’t get you anywhere and back without some sort of a unavailable recharge, driven by some idiot with a man bun, while he is eating an impossible burger from Burger King that doesn’t even have any meat in it and he is driving on a paved road to a range with his plastic/stainless steel 6.5 Creedmoor rifle to shoot at a gong at 400 yards while thinking he has got the world by the tail.

They are welcome to that delusional life, I think I will pass and stay firmly planted in the past...

I drive anywhere from 60 to 200 miles per day, and that is probably very normal in our current world. I seldom see a charging station for electric cars where I live or work. Of the 3 or 4 I can recall seeing in about a 200 mile radius of my home, they are never in use. That is partly due to the fact that using them would necessitate walking a couple of miles to work while leaving the "car" there. Not very convenient or useful in my estimation. Unlike gasoline or diesel fuel, that situation does not appear to be changing quickly or easily. Extra liquid fuel can be carried with you if you go far beyond civilization. Liquid fuel can be added to your vehicle in a short time with relative ease. For an electric vehicle, you might be able to roam further by taking a liquid fuel generator along and waiting while that generator recharges the batteries. Without effective Solar charging, electric vehicles are a short range day trip option.

Maybe a vehicle using a built in diesel generator to produce electricity to run electric motors for the drive wheels - - - similar to a diesel electric locomotive - - - could be made into an off road and long distance capable vehicle. Of course, it still has an internal combustion engine and is going to be more complicated than just using an internal combustion engine as the primary power source.

Elon musk is a guy with the ability to attract a great deal of funding for things which may produce in the 'future'. He is a venture capitalist, most his 20 bill fortune is thanks to being the inventor of paypal. His science projects are interesting but to date none of them still turn a buck. The government shovels him billions for these space projects because it saves them spending trillions on an actual space program like they used to have. The millenials are happy following the guy on twitter, the government saves a trillion bucks, elon gets rich. This is a nation that once had edisons, wrights, Fords, bells, morses every ten years. Now it pins its hopes on a corporate take-over merchant from South africa to get back to the level of space travel they had 50 years ago...

I think the thing is ugly and the "bed" has to be tiny (I like a full 8' bed although most people seem to prefer short beds these days). I do kind of like that it is stainless.

On the window thing - I watched that video. Several years back a rock kicked up by another vehicle hit the side window on my vehicle. There was a pop and the window shattered into hundreds of tiny pieces of glass - they are supposed to do that so you don't have any big dangerous shards but I was suddenly driving down the highway with an open window and little pieces of glass every where. From what I saw on that Tesla video the guy threw a pretty big steel ball bearing at the window fairly hard. The window starred badly but it stayed in one piece. It clearly wasn't what they wanted to happen but even then it was way stronger than the side window on any vehicle I own.

didnt watch the whole demo but heard he had claimed the glass was bulletproof before he smashed it? And that they threw 'spanners and everything at it' the day before. This is PT barnum level stuff. Bulletproofing is not tested by workshop guys throwing random tools at a product. Its serious lab testing and insurance underwriting before you'd make any such claim. Im getting to upset by youtube I think. Infinite genders, spanner proof armored glass, time to run an extra strand of barb wire around my swamp to keep the crazy folk out. Or maybe the crazy guy in.

for those who think the end of the internal combustion on our highways is near at hand, I would gladly take that bet PROVIDED that there are NO SUBSIDIES for either the rolling stock or the electricity. No free electricity at the mall. No price subsidies at the car dealer. FREE MARKET ONLY
