Playing with the Colt 44 Spl.
Sittin around dreaming of living in a State where we can ride horses again and carry a pistol and rifle on a horse.
We used to ride and carry but this blue belly State controls your life anymore, would love to move somewhere and do that again.
My Colt 44 spl. tuned by Bob Mundan.

Re: Playing with the Colt 44 Spl.
Fortunately it has not got to that point here. We still see people riding just for fun, and it is legal to carry a pistol in a holster if you have the license.

Re: Playing with the Colt 44 Spl.
Whoa there! That's my gun..l remember it....was Jay at your house?
Pitchy..you still can do it...ride a horse and shoot.....there's not a state around that prohibits horses and single action Colts. I know, your just reminiscing about how it used to be...a lot less people and the people who did see you with a gun just looked the other way. Same way here bud...I used to shoot anything I wanted to pull the trigger on and now it's cast bullets not over 1100 fps.
Years ago I was walking from my inlaws...a couple of hundred yards away.....down the road with a Mini-14 slung over my back....a state cop came driving by and stopped...then asked me, " hey! What are you doing, patrolling?" ....with a laugh.
Yea..they call this stuff "progress in civilization"---6

Re: Playing with the Colt 44 Spl.
Well bud it`s not that way here any more, law says ya can`t carry a gun in public without a carry permit, rifles too.
Heck i remember walking or riding a dirt bike all over this country with a six shooter on my side shootin grouse or carrying a shotgun.
I`d like too see MN go red and it might under Trump, the problem is the cities all blue .
Don`t have much hope for this state anyway, i`ve traveled all over this country and never seen so many selfish, jealous and clickish morons in my life.
Glad i`m as old as i am and look forward to the Lord coming and taking us to a wonderful place.

Re: Playing with the Colt 44 Spl.
I hear ya Pitchy. I went through a couple of years of a "doomed attitude" with the way things are in this country. The whole thing gets progressively worse......we finally get a President we have wished for for most of our lives and what happens?
Nobody knows how long they are gonna live but I see it over sometime in the mid seventies as there is only one guy at the club who is 75 and still shooting. Can't picture myself depending on others or sitting in a rocking chair....just hope the Good Lord takes me by then.
Well..we are both 65 so I say until doomsday...party on dude!!!!!---6

Re: Playing with the Colt 44 Spl.
We had carry permits for years for concealed carry. Open carry was fine. Now we don't need a carry permit at all.
Most places it wouldn't raise an eye. I'm sure in the southern part of the state it would. With all those "wilting lillies".
Lot of people have horses here. I always figured they were of limited use as the only places you can ride them a vehicle or wheeler will go. Woods are too thick for a horse in most places.
I can see where it would be neat, though. You could have a rifle loaded on a horse. Not "supposed to" in a vehicle.

Re: Playing with the Colt 44 Spl.
I had my .44 Special out yesterday along with the .45 S&W that I posted about. I have posted photos of it before .. a USFA that was built for the Shootists 20th anniversary .. it's a great shooting single action and one of my favorites. I mainly shoot the Keith SWC over 6.5 gr. of Unique or 16.5 gr. 2400. Yesterday I shot up some old factory ammo that I found in my stuff ... aluminum-cased Blazers with a 200 gr. jacketed bullet.
I also tested some home-made jacketed loads. I took some 200 gr. 45 ACP JHP's and ran them through the .429 bullet sizing die. I loaded them with a heavy load of AA#9 in the .44 Special. At 20 yards they would stay in about 4". Nothing exciting but it was a fun exercise.
The problem with getting older is remembering what the country was like 50 or 60 years ago.
The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.

Some fine sixguns in this thread. Lenn, amigo, don't you be too anxious to pass through that door any time soon.
Re: Playing with the Colt 44 Spl.
The only constant is change.
Sometimes it is hard to see the positive but if you look it is there. 25 years ago there were zero women members of our rifle club, just a few trap shooters who came with their husband. Now we have a couple dozen, many single ladies, and even have a women's pistol league. Our President and treasurer are women and do a darn good job of keeping things moving in a positive direction. Of course the trade off has been policing our selves about some of our language and humor and putting in a second bathroom for the ladies.
