Parker Grade 1 10 gauge two barrel set

Post by 6pt-sika »

Ran into a deal today for a Parker Grade 1 10 gauge two barrel set on a #2 frame the barrels are factory original 26” and 30” . Gun was ordered this way with the 26” being twist steel and the 30’s in Damascus . Little unusual but the gun letters as such with the factory books .

The fellow that actually owns this gun lives about 75 miles from me , he however has another fellow in NC brokering it for him .

I really really want an Parker EH 10 factory length 26” but until I find one this gun will certainly do ! The 26” barrels are choked from the factory approx IC and LM .

This one is extending me a bit over budget . And I’d been watching the auctions for a S&W 19-3 2 1/2” , I’ve got some cabbage set aside for a DHE 16 I know about if that falls thru I may try for a 19-3 otherwise a Smith will have to wait another year .

awesome. I love old Parkers, would like an old 10ga just for some late season pheasant hunting. But not very practical for taking out once or twice a year.
I have just one Parker, a 16ga trojan, bought cheap as it had short chambers, no one was interested in the short chambers, but good for me.
I would like to have another, a VH, or maybe just another good trojan in 16ga, mine is a 100 years old this year, great upland gun.

or a good Fox in 16ga, but like the Parkers, if in good shape, lot of money, and I still have an elk rifle to buy yet...and earlier this year bought a Merkel 47E in 12ga.
Too many guns left for me on my want and need list.

Where do you find all these Parkers?

I can relate to the Parker 16’s as I have a couple VH’s a GH and am trying to acquire a DHE . I had a circa 1930 AH Fox A Grade 16 for awhile but a double dealer in MI wanted it more than I wanted to keep it . Age is a number of these guns were maintained well and not abused or even later rehabbed they got plenty life left in them . I’ve got a good many pre 1890 doubles I’m not afraid to use on a regular basis . As to where I find them I just keep my eyes open and of course I have some folks that could be considered informants . And doing work at my friends shop helps me when consignors bring stuff in for us to sell . Think I’ve gotten four or five people consigned for sale at the shop .

This two barrel set was actually on the net for sale . But I know the guy that owned it and kinda know the guy brokering for him . So needless to say I didn’t pay what they were asking . By the time the deal was struck they’d knock a big chunk off the price and threw in a fitted walnut case that a Parker guy in IN or IL had custom made for the owner . I didn’t really want the case but it is what it is .

This is the case that comes with this two barrel set and was made for it . Very tasteful but not something I’m overly worried about .

Don’t get me wrong fitted cases are nice and especially nice if one has a “gun room” in there residence where they can display stuff . But they are heavy for carrying around . I’m more of an advocate of Americase products , still not light in weight but with an Americase I don’t care if it gets scratched .

I’m intrested to see how this gun handles on the skeet field with the 26” barrels ! Also how it does with those open barrels shooting larger buckshot 00 , 000 , 0000 and 00000 as well as my home cast slugs . My EH 10 gauge 28” that’s cylinder and very very lite mod does very well with large buck and slugs so I see no reason this one shouldn’t be similar

Beautiful! What year was it made. I went to a small gun show last year and a fellow had a Parker shotgun broke down in a nice original case. The metal work was something to get lost in. Actually I couldn't stop looking at it, being a metals guy. Price $2K. I think it was probably a deal. I thought I had better not getting into collecting Parkers, I think once you start oh boy look out.

I shot my 00000 buck handloads in it at 25 yards . That’s SIX .395” pellets . I got five hits from the right barrel and five hits from the left barrel .

For some unexplained reason my phone does not want to download the picture from the right barrel

With that 26” set of barrels that are quite open , this gun would be perfect for a vintage skeet shoot in the hammer gun category

Saturday 11/16/19 for the Virginia gun opener I’m going to take my Mannlicher Schoenauer MC carbine in 30-06 and this Parker Grade 1 10 gauge wearing the 26” barrels . I’m going to load 00000 Buck in the right barrel and a Moose Molds 715-585HB in the left barrel . These things I’m using for slugs were initially made for target competition at the North South Skirmish matches . But some other folks had found them to be excellent in rifled shotguns so I thought I’d give them a try in smoothbores . I cast them in both the hollow base and solid base variations .

Besides buckshot and slugs I took this one to the range for the first time for a round of skeet on Black Friday ! This gun handles very well with the 26” open barrel . Sorry to say I’ve not tried the longer barrel .
