I have a few questions I want to ask

Post by Celena »

Hello from the UK,

Have the above rifle, and the cartridge lifter doesn’t work reliably even with a hard cycle.

Have stripped, cleaned and lubed the rifle with some improvement although the lifter is only popping up 80% of the time.

I’m generally loading 250 grain LRN at 1.57 COAL so no problems there - I don’t think!

Am considering polishing the sides of the lifter where it pivots to lower the friction as far as possible - hopefully to slick it up.

Aside from that not sure what to do, although concerned that the cartridge guides could be impeding the cartridge and lifter from popping up - if so, perhaps adjusting these could help?

Something is missing....what is the rifle...?

Welcome aboard, Celena !

W/O knowing what kind/brand of rifle, I would say that (generally) something's binding the lifter.

IMO, it could be at least one of three things that cause your issue:

1) Debris inside the action, in which case it would need to be dis-assembled for a deep cleaning.

2) A faulty lifter spring, which would need replacement (if your rifle has the spring - not all rifles do)

3) A bent lifter pivot pin (don't ask me how I know this ;) )

Please keep us posted...…. 8)

I wonder if perhaps this was right above or under the recent marlin 1894 cst post originally hence the identification omission......

Anyway, welcome.....
