Gents, just trying to get an idea when my Rossi 1892 was made. Not after an exact date, which would probably be impossible. A general date range or even a "Before or after xyz" would be interesting. I understand these were made or marketed by various groups, which I always find confusing(puma, taurus, rossi, chiappa)?
Thanks for any help or wild guesses where it might fit in. Its a 24" octagonal stainless 357 with a serial starting with Sk114XXXX, Top tang stamped Amadeo Rossi, made in Brazil, its pre-safety( when did the safeties come in btw?) and the only other stamps are when taking the stock and buttplate after the numbers 125 and an 8 appear in one place and just 125 on another. Thanks for any thoughts.

Re: General date range of a rossi 1892
If you search this forum for posts by Nate Kiowa Jones, he has posted some fairly detailed history of Rossi production. He may come along to re-cap that before long.
BTW - searching sometimes is actually easier using a Bing or other non-Leverguns engine.
I'd search for 'levergunscommunity.org' and 'Nate Kiowa Jones' and 'Rossi' and 'dates' and 'production' or 'manufacture'....
Here's a promising start.... viewtopic.php?t=65531

Re: General date range of a rossi 1892
Thanks. Looks like I have some idea. The 125 8 is apparently likely a Julian date stamp, so a year ending in an 8. Rossi started doing stainless in the late 90's so that eliminates 1988. The safeties started to appear around the early 2000's , and it predates that. Im going with 1998 as a result.

Most likely an early 2000. the late 90's stainless were all round barrel carbines. No octagons. By 2000 InterArms was gone. That was about when LSI , EMF and Navy started importing them. The first Rossi 92's with the bolt safety was the LSI's. Up until about 2006 the EMF's didn't have the safety and they did import 24" stainless. If the ser # starts with and NA it is a Navy import. It will have real walnut too.
