Coonan Arms

Post by 4t5 »

If anyone has one or has shot a .357 mag 1911, I sure would like to hear about it. I'm a big fan of the 357 mag, and thought what a nice BBQ gun. Would like one in .327 but that is a dream.

I owned one for about 3 months. Like you im a 357 mag fan as well as a 1911 fan. It would not run, at all. I tried several different brands of ammo but it just wouldnt run. I believe the mags just cant function properly with the rimmed casing. I sent it to a couple locally well known gunsmith and neither could get it to feed properly. Finally gave up and sold it for a significant loss.

They look good, and that is all I know. I would like to shoot one and find out for myself.

Desert Eagles in 357 Magnum are reliable.....but HUGE.....

1911 with .357 punch = .38 Super.

The 38 super has a good reputation for reliability and accuracy. The large number of people using it in competition cannot all be wrong. It just happens to be another caliber which I do not yet have.

The Coonan comes with an extra spring to allow 38 specials, which is where I would run mostly.

Would not rule out a 38 super or a 357 sig, if they were more available around me.

AFAIK.. Coonan has currently ceased production (yet again?). I toyed with the idea of getting one recently, I wasn't really sold on the idea... and that news made it a done deal to avoid.

A 1911 in 9x23 would make me happy though. :)
