Turkey with a .410
I know there's a lot of people that might find a lot of reasons to find fault with this video. Maybe you might have done it better. In the end, it was a father taking his daughter out to learn to hunt. She did it with a .410 which a lot of people find fault with as well. Just know, it can be done.

I’ve got a friend that’s now retired , who is a recovering cancer patient now in remission that’s killed a few turkey with a TC Contender handgun with 10” barrel shooting 410 3” . Don’t think he shoots if they’re much over 15 yards . This guy in the past killed them with 10 gauge , 12 gauge , 16 gauge and 20 gauge shotguns . Don’t think he ever tried a 28 or 410 shotgun but he has had success with the Contender 10” in 410 .

Buddy of mines daughter took her first turkey with a 410. I have always used a 12 gauge, but that is what I have.

Re: Turkey with a .410
Federal is now making a 3" load using Tungsten shot, a gun company ( forget who) has a single shot choked extra full as a turkey gun. The article said the 410 threw effective patterns out to 40 yards .
BROWN LABS MATTER !!
Re: Turkey with a .410
People who think a .410 is insufficient for turkeys just haven't thought it through. The fact is, pellet for pellet a .410 is just as effective as a 12 gauge. There just aren't as many pellets. A tight-choked .410 is more effective in turkeys than an open-choked 12 gauge. I've killed two turkeys with my grandfather's old Winchester Model 42 -- no trick to it at all.

For giggles, Midway is clearing out Hevi-Shot Hevi-X turkey loads at just over $6 per 5, but this load does not get nearly the raves that the Federal TSS does. The shot is much softer than tungsten and being No. 6, the patterns are much less dense.

When I was hauling groceries one of our store managers took his son out deer hunting in his father in laws orange grove. He killed a nice little 4 point buck with a .410 slug. I ended up selling him a 20 ga. NEF really cheap so he wouldn't wound a deer. I guess a lot of people kill deer with a .410 but I do think they're a little light for some things.

This was #3 which I called in for him to ambush- he did! Hunt report is likely on this forum.
Note clenched left fist as he strains to hold gobbler with one hand!

That's the correct answer....---6Pisgah wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 7:18 am People who think a .410 is insufficient for turkeys just haven't thought it through. Re: Turkey with a .410
Never hunted turkey. .410 is just fine for pheasant as long as the hunter is accurate. Out on the high plains, most hunters carry 12 gauge, and .410 is not held in high regard. I have seen proof that accuracy is the difference enough times that I will forever remain convinced that it will remain that way. I use either a 20 or a 12 due to my mediocre shotgun skill.

Re: Turkey with a .410
I like hunting with a.410, if anyone sees me pull off a great shot they assume I'm real marksman , if they see me miss then they just blame my choice of gun...
